My father caught polio in (I think) 1947. He spent some time in an iron lung, was eventually able to breathe unaided but never walked again. That’s me hanging on to one of his wheels in around 1958. Some people wonder why I am so pro-science & so angry with anti vaccine propaganda. Here’s why.

Gebbia’s Birch society post blames immigrants for rising housing costs. Given that a lot of people blame AirBNB for unaffordable housing, this seems like a prime example of a rich guy who scapegoating immigrants for a large social problem he helped create. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/trumps-chi...
What about AirBNB? The most cited study found that AirBNB contributed to about one-fifth of observed rent growth and one-seventh of observed price growth in the median zip code, and shifted the housing supply from long-term to short-term rentals. These effects appear to be larger in with higher owner-occupancy areas, which tends to correlate with more touristy regions. Which is why some local governments, mostly in Europe but also in places like New York City, have sharply regulated or even banned AirBNB.

Both totally unnecessary and extremely funny that the Guardian has an interactive graphic for you to change the color of the US flag's blue to the color of the Reflecting Pool from 8 to 19 June and counting
Screenshot of the article's graphic, showing color swatches derived from the Earthcam archive, illustration the color of the reflecting pool calibrated against satellite imagery, from 8 June to 19 June 2026. I chose yesterday, 19 June, so it rendered the US American flag with a green hue instead of blue.

Statement from Mayor of London Sadiq Khan calling for Musk and his platform to be held to account:
MAYOR OF LONDON
The knife attack in Belfast on Monday was truly horrific. My thoughts are with Stephen Ogilvy and his family, who deserve justice.
Targeting and terrorising innocent people because of the colour of their skin, including setting fire to their homes, has nothing to do with justice or a desire to keep communities safe, however. It is racist mob violence, which has been organised, enabled and whipped up by those seeking to profit politically and financially from hatred, fear and disorder.
Social media platforms who give money and reach to these individuals to promote their hate need to be held to account. They cannot be allowed to continue pouring petrol on the flames.
The disgraceful violence is a direct consequence of the normalisation of vile, racist rhetoric across the UK, which needs to be challenged far more robustly in our political discourse.
I welcome the steps the Prime Minister has taken to work with police and the First Minister of Northern Ireland. We must stand together to prevent further disorder, and to take on the hateful forces that seek to divide us.
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan
