Fan Ho, nicknamed ‘the great master’ earned his fame as one Asia’s most beloved street photographers capturing Hong Kong in the 50’s and 60’s. Beautiful understanding of lightning, composition and subject.

#MonochromeMonday I seriously miss North America, can't wait to get back there one day. I got there possibly 20mins too late, the influencers were already taking the selfies, but it's such a cool shot I had to take it. #Travel #Wanderlust #Nikon

What an incredible photo. On Sunday, astro-photographer Andrew McCarthy captured the moment the International Space Station passed across our sun.
The frame is dominated by the burning sun, a mass of swirling inferno. In the bottom half of the picture, the silhouette of the ISS is clearly visible. Photo credit to Andrew McCarthy.

In this day & age of AI & the threat to the creative arts I've seen the rise of folk saying (to photographers) we shouldn't edit our work. Editing photos IS photography, has been from the first days of darkrooms. Like asking a composer, 1 edit only, no adjusting notes or instruments. More in Alt
A image of 'That Wanaka Tree' that I'm using as an example of my editing process;

In camera I set the white balance to daylight to emphasis the blue hour & about a 10 second exposure to smooth the waters. But in post-production editing, I've cropped to this format to frame my subject with the distant headlands drawing the eye in, adjusted saturation, clarity, blacks, whites, contrast, added some (subtle) adjustment makes to emphasise areas (the reflection for example has a radial adjustment layer in which I have cranked up the clarity to give more definition to the tree reflection). But none of these techniques are 'cheating', & the greats of photography have been doing the same in the darkroom (just using different names & techniques) to get these results.

As long as you are honest about your editing & lets say I added a shooting star in the background without telling anyone, or god forbid actually asked AI to make this image, then that's cheating.

But the notion of a 1 shot perfect image is bonkers & happens 1 in 100,000 times.

Don't be dicks & trash the creative community for the sake of 'purity' & anti-AI crusade.

These extraordinary photos of the LA fires have been shared widely on social media, often without crediting the photographer. These are all the work of Ethan Swope, an LA-based photojournalist working for AP. You can follow his remarkable reporting here👇 www.instagram.com/ethanswopeph...

Night, BlueSky friends. A a single parent who works mostly from home, I’d forgotten how enriching and gorgeous and genuinely connective it can be to have a decent social media community around. Really grateful for each and every one of you this evening. This is nice. 😊

Discussing Bluesky migration in terms of liberal flight misses the simple fact that most people use social media for fun not influence and this platform, unlike X and cruddified Facebook, doesn’t feel like you’re wading through shit to reach your friends. It’s not that deep.
