The southern Milky Way as seen from Namibia, Africa. I used a 35mm lens to show the part of the Milky Way that we never see in the northern hemisphere because, well, the Earth is in the way. I have been to the southern hemisphere many times and I think the clarity of the night sky in Namibia is the best in the world. Incredible detail of star birth regions, (pink) and dark dust lanes that block the light of billions of stars behind pop through the steady atmosphere. The bright yellow star, lower left, is Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to us.
