I like to think my mum nursed a grudge against Tina Arena even from when she was a child star. Watching “Young Talent Time” going “I’ll give you feckin goodnight, Tina.”

Tina Arena, or at the very least Tina Arena when she’s singing “Chains”. Fair enough imo.

Here is the new album by The Bionics, entitled NEON DEUTSCHLAND. Harking back to the days when you might bump into someone interesting on a West German street corner. It comes digitally & physically. Danke schön @neondeutschland.bsky.social thesonsofsilence1.bandcamp.com/album/neon-d...

New Deafheaven EP uses the same numbers station thing as the Wilco album, so if you’ve ever wanted to hear more international call signs, well, you could have done that at any point really, but also now on the Deafheaven EP.

It's been a while but I found a lot of his judgments grating. Even when I agreed with him - yes, Stalinism is bad! - but I found it hard to take coming from someone who had vocally supported things like the invasion of Iraq. And yes, very male and very white.

Watching Bathurst and cracking myself up remembering this classic
An image posted on Facebook that shows Peter Brock as the driver across the River Styx, picking up Elizabeth II after she died. He asks her “need a lift?” She replies “take me to my husband please”. The poster adds “remembering both on this fateful day 8/9”

Short thread of a kind of song I especially like, where the lyrics are a sort of flowing, unpunctuated, breathless but rhythmic stream-of-consciousness. Robyn Hitchcock, "Unsettled"

The only other of his I've read is The Snow Leopard. I have his Shadow Country, which is an enormous reworking of three of his earlier novels. Meant to be great, but it is a brick.

I'm proud of my three collections of ghost stories and weird fiction, not least because together they've apparently created a sense of what Newmanesque might mean. Get them here: www.amazon.co.uk/stores/Ray-N...
Municipal Gothic (black, yellow, brutalist tower block); Intervals of Darkness (black, red, illustration of a mysterious void); Thin Places in Hard Concrete (pink and pale blue, floating brutalist staircase). There books, 37 stories.

Went around knocking on doors at every house within a three block radius to tell the owners I didn’t want to see any Halloween decorations on their lawn scarier than a 7/10. I told them I was having a rough year and can’t handle any jolts. Subdued atmospheric pieces are OK but nothing that’ll jolt.

Don Dokken: yeah that sounds fine, fax me the contracts when they’re finalised. Any other business? Attorney [strumming guitar]: did I ever tell you the story of the little boy who dreamed of stardom but whose parents made him go to law school?
The classic Dokken line-up consisted of founder Don Dokken on vocals, George Lynch on lead guitar,
Mick Brown on drums and Jeff Pilson, who replaced the Ratt-bound Juan Croucier in 1983, on bass; this line-up remained stable from 1983 to
1989, and again from 1993 to 1998,
[11] and briefly reunited in 2016. 12] After several personnel changes on guitar, Dokken's attorney Jon Levin
stepped in to fill the role in 2004.

This came up in a quote and it’s a fun story - I was in Zambia the day that Michael Jackson died, but I didn’t know about it because my white Dutch landlords were mourning Farrah Faucett. That day I flew to Lusaka and everyone was crying at airport security; I was like “damn, Charlie’s angels?”
