This is kind of a litmus test for whether or not you should ever open your mouth about politics or government. If you think ignoring the rule of law was the way Biden should have gone you truly do not understand what this nation is supposed to be about and might as well move elsewhere.

This is good, but still doesn’t quite tackle what the market has produced vs what was envisioned. Throttle assist should be limited to 15mph, max, bc 20 mph is *really fucking fast* for a trail, and most class II e-bikes are still mini-motos with 4” knobbies, not commuters only at home on streets.

Now the mayor is dissing staff about the staff report and showing his whole ass. “I’m an idiot and don’t know what I’m talking about and haven’t done my homework but I’m going to go on and on about how bad the staff report is because of all the me being an idiot thing. I’m the mayor.”

1: bicycle. 2: e-bicycle. 3: little electric motorcycle you can easily mod to go 50mph. 1 or 2 gives a teenager precisely as much freedom as 3 and are also much safer for everyone involved. These things are not “last mile” transit solutions or anything like that, they’re just little motorcycles.

It is incredibly gratifying to read an account of extreme competence in the White House. The fact that whenever we have a competent executive we find ways to tear them down speaks to what a bunch of spoiled children we are as a nation.

I tell you, the people who made I/P their entire personality after October 7, 2023, are some of the dumbest, least intellectually curious people alive (on both sides, naturally - it's the great tradition of this conflict). It's proud ignorance, myopia, and incuriosity. It's been wildly destructive.

My take from this story is that Joe Biden was the only guy will to de-escalate and pretty much everyone else chose to kill people over any other available option and Biden's impulses lost.

From 34.9 to 50.4. This is why everyone who doesn’t support and vote for democrats in every election can go to hell. Climate change is the most important issue on the planet. About 18% of all US ghg emissions are from you driving your car, the 3rd largest direct source of emissions. This is terrible

That bus stop does not have a green roof. It has a planter on top of it. Someone greenlit the bus stop green roof program and they made posters and then found out a bus stop can’t hold up a green roof, so they put a planter up there. And the posters. This is dumb, sorry.

It has. And voters are to blame, and only voters can stop it, and only voters can maintain it. “Pack the court,” prosecute for current lawlessness, whatever, none of it will matter if voters continue to put the GOP in power. Democracy has to be maintained by its citizens, full stop.

The U.S. AI industry is being run by a batshit rationalist sex cult, and no, I am not being hyperbolic - they’re genuinely Like That:
Erin Redwing
@realizingerin
I went to an rationalist/EA Al doomer event last night with the goal of meeting someone who could calmly explain to me the argument for how they get to the conclusion that Al will kill everyone.
Because these are rationalists, I expected to find people who could lay out a serious extinction pathway, walk through the assumptions and intermediate steps, identify choke points where negative pathways could potentially be regulated, and entertain disagreement about where their assumptions might break down.
My experience was the exact opposite.
The people I spoke to seemed psychologically unable to entertain the possibility that their conclusion (that Al literally kills everyone, which was a point that many would not even budge on) might be wrong.
Their most extreme conclusion was treated as an axiom.
I had multiple people walk out of conversations with me when I questioned their inevitable extinction premise.
At one point during a panel, the moderator asked everyone in the audience who was still skeptical of Al doom to raise their hands. About half the room did. He then told all of the skeptics to leave the panel and go with one of the speakers, who would answer their questions separately. They filtered out all the skeptics, and continued the panel only with the subset who accepted their extreme position.
I genuinely felt like a heretic just for questioning whether superintelligent Al inevitably leads to the extinction of humanity, or entertaining the possibility that the future might actually turn out well.
That does not mean Al safety is fake. Obviously there are serious questions about rapidly advancing Al systems and what happens as they become much more capable. Those are exactly the conversations I went there hoping to have.
But what I encountered was an apocalyptic death cult. These people are not rational. They are deeply afraid, they reinforce that fear in one another, and they have become so emotionally committed to apocalypse

I was driving to work on 9/11 and heard about it on the radio. I was very scared that the same was going to happen somewhere in LA and as I was driving so I kept looking up for planes. I got to work, a brokerage firm, and the brokers were complaining about the markets not being open. It was surreal.

From top to bottom, modern conservatism is a movement to resolve the emergence of a meaningfully democratic & pluralist United States by demolishing the United States. Perhaps what's most interesting is witnessing conservative slowly internalize that this was the endgame all along.
