I strongly believe in grassroots membership election of the leader of a party that believes in grassroots democracy. I co-wrote this with @mehreenfaruqi.bsky.social a few years ago. If Mehreen wins, she’ll be the first leader of the Greens to be on the record supporting it.

I’m backing Cassian Andor and Leia Organa for co-leadership of the Australian Greens. They bring the right mix of insurgency and establishment to appeal to a large cross-section of voters across the galaxy at a moment like this. Plus, gender balance is crucial.

I keep hearing this idea that "I don't like AI, but maybe it can solve climate change" and I just... what? Surely there is nothing about "solving" climate change that needs more computing power or ideas. It's purely about the interaction of power structures and social realities. Can we not?

Re-enchantment as an assertion of wonder and the numinosity of our relationships with landscape. Re-enchantment as an assertion of our collective ability to both imagine and experience better worlds. As a refusal of despair, as a lensing of hope.

Re-enchantment as personal metamorphosis. The space in which we grow glowing red eyes to patrol our communities against this long night of authoritarian pisspuffiny. The space in which we develop iron-hard fur that make us immune to the curses reductionist racists, misogynists, homophobes and AI cultists throw at us. Re-enchantment as the permissive circle where we can voyage into ourselves and find the marvels and bravery we need to deal with this age of violent bruising.

Re-enchantment as resistance.

EJ Swift’s “When There Are Wolves Again” is as beautiful and brilliant a piece of climate literature as I’ve ever read. And I’ve read a lot. It’s also a real a telling of what it feels like to be an activist in a broken and breaking world as I’ve read. I felt very seen. Do read it.
