One of the best of the best is gone and I’m home alone crying. It was always such a pleasure to talk and work with Tim Read. He was so thoughtful and wise and generous and gentle. He worked incredibly hard as a local MP, for the community and the planet. Deepest condolences to his family.

Sweeping leaves this morning, this person came to join me. We had a lovely chat as they followed me around, finding tasty delights I was leaving behind.

EJ Swift’s “When There Are Wolves Again” is as beautiful and brilliant a piece of climate literature as I’ve ever read. And I’ve read a lot. It’s also a real a telling of what it feels like to be an activist in a broken and breaking world as I’ve read. I felt very seen. Do read it.
Lovely cover, too. A wolf, sort of in a cage but they’re also maybe trees?

I was lucky enough to get to watch a gorgeous little flame robin playing in the trees up on O’Connor Ridge today. Check it out mid-dive on the third photo!

Back on Ngarigo country, my favourite place. So ridiculously warm for mid winter, with not much snow for the snow gums. But still just stunningly beautiful. Good for the soul.

Jillian Segal is absolutely living up to her role as Antisemitism Envoy. Every time she says something like this, she increases antisemitism in Australia. I'm sorry, I have to be facetious about this or I will cry scream. Our community used to be respected. This makes us at best a laughing stock.

This rather unassuming photo marks a truly historic occasion! ACT Greens members are currently voting in the first full membership ballot for the leadership of a Greens party in Australia, with a contested ballot. And we’ve got a real contest of ideas and approaches. Democracy in action! 💚🌎

Happy 100th birthday to our deeply beloved Oma. Gone ten years now and missed every day. I’m so grateful for her incredible love and strength and wisdom.
Old black and white photo from I guess around the mid 1930s. My Oma as a young girl with a smile and short wavy hair in a spotty dress stands between two stern older ladies - her aunt and grandmother, I think

Who else LOVED Barbapapa?! This was absolutely one of the most important books of my childhood. Now I wove it into some thinking about Audre Lorde's "the master's house" and Vanessa Andreotti's "house of modernity", and I'd love it if you'd read it. in-between-days.ghost.io/renovating-t...

Thank you, Sir David Attenborough, for your love of the world, and for sharing it with us for 100 years. This letter is one of my most treasured possessions. I sent him my book when it came out, with a letter of gratitude, and he replied! Happy birthday!
A letter in spidery hand-writing, dated 1.8.22, reading “Dear Tim Hollo, thank you very much for sending me a copy of Living Democracy. I look forward very much to reading it. And thank you too for the very kind thing you say about my programmes. Best wishes, David Attenborough”

What the everloving fuck is this They wonder why people think government is a sick joke Nah, we won't stop funding fossil fuels, or stop gambling ads, or regulate AI. We'll do an unworkable and idiotic social media ban for kids... Oh and here's a pile of cash for private equity because Tim Tams.
Government fund lends $45m to Arnott’s to help Tim Tams go global
Patrick Commins
The government’s National Reconstruction Fund has lent Arnott’s Group $45m to help support the Australian name to take Tim Tams worldwide.

The money will be used to refinance $1.75bn in debt that comes due in 2026, which is earmarked for “planned future growth capital expenditure”.

Tim Tams are already stocked in all major British supermarkets and are reportedly selling well – Brits have bought more than 5 million packets since the biscuits hit shelves in April 2024.

The NRF has $15bn in taxpayer money to invest in the country’s manufacturing capability, and recently also lent $36m to the country’s biggest meat pie maker, Patties Food Group.

Arnott’s has been around since 1865 and employs 2,500 people across five facilities.

While Arnott’s is an iconic Australian name, the company is owned by American private equity giant KKR, which bought the company from Campbell Soup Company in 2019.

Arnott’s has not been Australian owned since 1997.

My heart is broken in a million pieces. There’s so much tragedy in the world, but today this is mine. This magnificent creature gave so much love and joy for ten years. My beloved Midnight has left us, after a long illness, curled up at home with me and my daughter. She was the bestest.
I’m leaning my head on the pillow of my beloved tripod tuxedo cat, Middy, who is sitting on the back of a white sofa. This was a month or so ago, as her illness was getting worse. The sadness was already in my eyes.

It’s time we believed Labor when they tell us they are quite happy to see countless people, not to speak of creatures, die in fires, floods, droughts and storms, so as to enable the fossil fuel industry to keep making profits a while longer. The old world is dead. Time to birth the new.

And yes, to lighten the tone, we are also having a holiday on this long service leave trip! To prove it, here are some shots of a walk and a lunch and a very chilly dip up in the Pyrénées Arriégeois two days earlier 😜 Back to my holiday now. But wanted to share the Fittko walk. Solidarity
