This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it to me late one night, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #BookSky

Through 14 James Bond movies, Lois Maxwell portrayed Miss Moneypenny. In her life, she served with the Canadian Women's Army Corps, appeared with Wayne and Shuster, wrote for the Toronto Sun and starred in Adventures in Rainbow Country. This is her story. 📸 ITC 🧵 1/10

It's my birthdaaaaay!🎊 As an artist, it's often difficult to acknowledge how much I work and how much I improve, so today I want to be nicer to myself and share some of my favourite pieces I made since my last bday.💙 If you'd like to share, it would be a lovely gift!🙏✨

We’ve spent many, many hours over the past few months searching the rock pools of Cornwall for a rainbow sea slug. Today, we finally found one! Absolutely worth all the time we’ve spent - it was truly breathtaking.

fun fact: one of the things that made me decide "no, I will get an actual diagnosis", rather than just assuming, was the subtitle of a thread about ADHD on the SomethingAwful forums because it hit so hard it hurt it was along the lines of "if you were lazy, you would be having fun"

9 times out of 10, I can sit quietly and patiently while dealing with heat and dust and flies - and get nothing. Then, on that 10th time, the universe will gift me a moment like this. Two cockatiels landed right in front of me at Gluepot - right in the spot I was hoping they would land. A miracle!

Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.

Four people were aboard the single-engine plane when it went down in a cornfield near Carvers School Road in East Troy at about 1:30 p.m.

The stupidest thing about this post is that this is genuinely a candid taken of me standing in a moat and listening to my friends make terrible assumptions about why the castle windows were shaped like that. I then climbed through the window in question to better show them why they were wrong.

I won’t lie, it’s a bit overwhelming to see the work hyperbolized by many press outlets, including the university. We did not discover a new organ, or that you have two consciousnesses, etc! I’m excited for the general positive recognition, (especially the coverage from the Chronicle by Jack Lee)

The brain is a single organ. But it may not start that way, study suggests
A Stanford-led study challenges the idea that the brain develops from one common pool of early cells — and could help researchers model diseases such as ALS.

I’ve worn a grubby RNLI cap for decades. I sound London, but I was born in Truro and I was a basically feral (Gen X) kid wandering the coast path with a dog until sunset for a lot of my early life. The lifeboats are in the fabric like trawlers and farms and pasties and fish and chips.

Two posts by tumblr user fiollagean. The first says "The magnus archives sounds cool! What are the content warnings?" with a picture of Yakko Warner from Animaniacs doing the "Countries of the world" song. The second post reads: "kidnapping stalking insanity sleepwalking cannibalism and teeth, gaslighting gun violence pipe murder and silence and medical trauma and meat. bugs in your body and poisoned black coffee and self-mutilation and lies, police brutality breaks from reality suicide spiders and eyes. Paaaaaranoia degloving the uncanny valley and running like prey to survive, agonies torture and drowning and falling and then being buried alive."

From at least 8 years ago. As an Aussie, I’m pretty up with the lingo, and I’d never heard this phrase before this post. It was nearly universally adopted shortly thereafter because this post speaks absolute truth about Aussies.
actuallybenwyatt:
I met a couple Australians this weekend and they introduced me to what is possibly the greatest phrase in the English language.
Apparently, a common response to a wide variety of questions is
"I'm not here to fuck spiders". It means "I'm already doing that" or
"Obviously, yeah". So like, example usage:
At the bar with a friend.
Friend: do you want to get a beer?
Me: well, I'm not here to fuck spiders.

an-xfile: I’ve literally never heard someone say that what fuckin australlans did you meet

baldies: mate those Australians introduced you to the grand Australian tradition of fucking with foreigners and making them believe anything about Australia

the-rogue-01-light: this is seriously a thing australians do, like, automatically, someone will say something that is complete bullshit in front of a foreigner and everyone will instantly jump on board and confirm it. like it's some kind of built-in reflex.
my step-dad actually convinced my mom that there were no trains in australia, and he didn't end this conversation with a just kidding' or anything like that. he just let her think that for years until we moved here and she saw a train and was like DAMN IT KEVIN!!!!!

"Thematically speaking, the most important thing Terry Pratchett taught me was the concept of militant denceny. The idea you can look at the world and its flaws and its injustices and its cruelties and deeply, intensely angry, and that you can turn that into energy for doing the right thing and making the world a better place. He taught me that the anger itself is not the part I should be fighting. Nobody in my life ever said that before."
