So, I crunched the numbers. The ECMWF indicates odds of at least one extremely (>200% of avg) month are above 50% in all CA regions, and odds of at least one very wet (>150%) month are 90-100% in all regions. The odds of *multiple* 150%/200% months are also strikingly high.
Bar charts for December–March show the fraction of 51 October-initialized members with at least one qualifying month. Northern, Central and Southern California respectively: above 150 percent of average in 46, 48 and 50 members; above 200 percent in 31, 40 and 45; above the historical monthly record-ratio threshold in 5, 11 and 13. Thresholds apply to regional-average precipitation. Fractions are uncalibrated.

Historic warmth is currently impacting our global oceans. September shattered the previous peak for the warmest average global sea surface temperature on record for the month. And this excessive heat is found across nearly all regions. Data from NOAA ERSSTv6. I finally adjusted the y-axis here. 🌊
Green line graph time series of average sea surface temperature anomalies for each September from 1900 through 2026. There is large interannual variability, but an overall long-term increasing trend. Anomalies are computed relative to a 1981-2010 baseline.

Trinity academics call for climate crisis to be declared public health emergency
Two College academics demand that climate change be named a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), warning in UK medical journal The Lancet of unfolding effects on health. PHEIC is a mechanism under the International Health Regulations for extraordinary events requiring a coordinated international response. Enabling it, according to the scholars, would allow better funding and a more organised, institutionalised response.
