Had to look up supine. "er lag auf dem Rücken" = he lay on his back. The translation invokes an image of a lap dog exposing its throat in submission to a direwolf. While not intended, it perfectly matches how your CCC behaves. Our German one too, by the way. Lap dogs, supine before a dire BAU wolf.

We & our funders (UKRI), have swallowed the blue pill issued by the CCC; what we hear now, with important exceptions, is little more than murmurings, acquiescence &, most dangerously of all, silence.

Ireland is an extremely windy place and could help heat Europe in the winter. An Irish long dated LNG commitment is about as intuitive as Qatar importing whale oil for its energy needs. LNG is structurally expensive, always geopolitically at risk and it does point the economy in the wrong direction

Domestic U.K. production won’t move the needle or insulate from price shocks. What it does do, and that is the point, is to provide an excuse to stay on gas as any measure will be framed as putting jobs at risk. Producing more gas domestically will likely increase imports, cost more, and pollute.

for de-commissioning & may be reliant on tax income by that stage. If still burned in UK - Govt will most probably be subsidising the CCS or CDR (not that it is likely to exist). No lose situation for FF companies - lose all ways for everybody else.

@kevinclimate.bsky.social puts it miles better than I ever could. I tend to argue via hypothetical questions. Suppose we do really well & reach net-zero in 8 to 10 years time (if we don't we're consigning UK to systemic collapse). Where does the oil/gas go then? Shut the fields down? Govt will pay

All the focus on displacing the bit of gas we import that is more carbon intensive than the UKs, that is the 20% of what we use, rather on driving down demand so we don't need to use it at all, is angel on the head of a pin stuff. More production is not a solution it is just a distraction.
