This article (and Slade's book) are fan fiction. Trumpism isn't a break from Reaganism, it's the intended result, a gov't by, for, and of corruption, lawlessness, racism, and misogyny. That's why Reaganites with power—Thomas, Alito, Kennedy, McConnell—worked hard to empower and entrench Trumpism.

Remarkable: an industry that is dying because it can't compete in the market writes a Republican president, asking him to keep the industry alive by brute force, and he says, ok. What would it take for the GOP to lose its reputation as the "free market" party? Seriously, what would it take?

It's not that previous councils didn't project future deficits—it's that THIS council's deficits have been astronomical compared to pre-Harrell projections, and relied on them pretending new programs would be one-time and funded them that way, assuming magic money would fall from the sky, I guess.

Anyway, that's all until tomorrow. Theme for this last session: How dare the mayor not come up with funding we failed to find in last year's budget ourselves to pay for our one-time adds with ongoing money. Safe bet that they'll try to use this fake "one-time spending" trick again this year.

While KCRHA will remain in charge of coordinated entry, "inefficiencies" in coordinated entry were not among the KCRHA-specific issues identified in a recent forensic audit; rather, the issues were mostly with the way homeless service provider contracts were administered and tracked.

I'm surprised that as someone who has been on the council this long, Dan Strauss is unaware that it's really hard for chronically homeless people to move into permanent housing in many cases. He also incorrectly uses "tiny houses" and "low-acuity shelter" as synonyms, which they are not.

It's fine if people don't want to have liberal arts education. Go ahead, have large gaps in understanding the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Live your life ignorant, incomplete, undeveloped, inadequate. You have the right to be a worse citizen, a shallow dullard, a lesser person.

SPD is not being cut, of course, but they did take some reductions in long-vacant civilian positions while adding 66 net officers for the Harrell-era goal of 1,250 total cops. SPD's budget is the only budget to massively expand, thanks mostly to new six-figure starting salary for cops.

Wilson (who has probably never screamed in her life) did not come to City Hall and scream that they should "defund" or "abolish" the police, and this bald-faced lie from Juarez is about as political as you can get. Wilson's budget funds Bruce Harrell's SPD plan that he failed to fully fund.
