It really doesn't make sense to attribute those job losses to AI-the-technology, because if that were the case we'd be observing AI outputs displacing conventional entertainment products, and they're clearly not. Rather, the impact of AI is that AI-the-business is crowding out other investment.

🤷
Sue, a retiree, was handing out rape alarms yesterday. She did not want to give her full name but did want to talk about incidents of sexual violence involving migrants she said she had heard about directly and online. “None of the crime figures really are truly being broadcast. The police don’t let the data out. So consequently — this is the trouble, isn’t it? — nobody knows.”

She was fiddling with her phone trying to put on a song, the rap lament This is England by Danny Bones. This summer the song has become an anthem for rightwing protest groups.

When it was pointed out to her that Bones is not a real person but an AI creation by a group calling themselves the Node Project, she shrugged: “What’s real? What’s not?”

I am once again pointing out that even if Waymo cars are individually "safer than a human driver," what they will do to the transportation landscape will prolong the unsafety of our streets, leading to more harm in the long run than if we went all-in on traffic calming with no robotaxis at all.

There's much talk these days about what's required for "real" intelligence, such as world models and the like. One thing we know about the human evolution of it: it required/requires emotion. That may have been better appreciated in 1938 than today. archive.org/details/in.e...
Subtract the emotional element from religion, literature, and art and there would be left the merest dross, an utterly meaningless mass of symbols and responses. Emotionless, man could not produce poetry, music, the graphic arts, or any of the splendid products of a refined culture. The generous sweeps of the imagination that have brought forth romantic movements in the world^s history, the noble aspirations of the intellect that have led whole peoples to seek a higher life, the tremendous activities of organized groups which have spread the best tokens of their civilizations to other lands, the splendid achievements of individual pioneers, adventurers, craftsmen, artisans, composers, inventors, scientists, and spiritual leaders, would never have come to pass in an emotionless world.

After enough street fights you start to see that a big part of the anti-redesign team just wants to assert that they're in charge here (usually by virtue of having been here first, whether that's true or not). The content of the plan is irrelevant. What matters is that their in-group dominates.

Esoteric Ebb is great. Everyone go play it. [screengrab from very early in the game (like 10mins)]
This is a tough one guys. Isometric video game screengrab. A medieval knight in a blue tunic, chainmail and helmet stands before a short green kobold who holds a crossbow and sits atop a pillow which is atop two wooden crates.

The user interface indicates that the player has just won a DC 7 Charisma check, allowing the following interaction.

"You: You smirk. A confident laugh escaping your lips. You then turn towards the ceiling, smiling.

[you say] "I also don't like milk."

"CHARISMA: [the charisma part of your personality] Your comment has made a dent upon the world."

The issue isn't that the rulers are old. It's that the institutions are broken and unaccountable. Under those conditions the people with power stay in power and the rich find their champions and keep them in their seats. That's show bad leaders stick around long enough to GET old.

I've heard this kind of thing from electeds before and it's frankly disgusting. The morality of your words and votes are fair game. If you don't like it you shouldn't be in the big chair. Also all the clergy is this article are legends. www.ctpublic.org/news/2026-02...
DeLauro said, as a legislator in the minority of a large body, she has to thread the needle carefully with what she supports and votes for.

“I would rather you vote for what is morally correct,” Davidson said.

“Don’t talk to me about my own morality,” DeLauro shot back.

“Don’t tell your constituents what they can and can’t talk to you about,” replied Rev. Nathan Empsall of the Episcopal Church of St. Paul and St. James in New Haven. “What you are voting for is not moral.”

This is the most important one thing to know about NY politics in 2026. Even though Hochul will win the primary + the general, and many of our Left electeds will endorse her, the rank + file Left must campaign hard and vote against her in the primary to shift the balance of power in the state.

Welcome to the Marxist Revolution ummm . . . uh . . . chief economist at Moody's. 😐
Screenshot from a CNBC article, linked in the next skeet. "The “K-shaped” economy has been top of mind for consumers, corporate leaders, policymakers and investors since the Covid pandemic drastically reshaped Americans’ financial habits almost six years ago. Economists now warn that this two-speed economic structure is a core feature — rather than a passing fad — within the world’s largest economy.

“This is not a cyclical or temporary phenomena,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics. “This is a structural, fundamental issue.”"
