I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure. Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

As a former reader, this is absolutely true. I never, ever had a script that opened with ten terrible pages change my mind by the end. Some people misunderstand this to mean your first ten pages can’t start slow. That’s not what I’m saying. The first 10 pages tell me if you can WRITE

Maybe next time people will listen.
Ms. Fifield called that a lie.

Mr. Platner, she said, knew when they were dating years ago that the tattoo was a Nazi symbol, and that he called it “my Totenkopf.”

“I would never have known what that was,” she said. “He would joke about it being a Nazi tattoo.”

Ms. Fifield said he told her that he and other members of his unit selected the tattoo because “they were like a death unit, they were killers,” and saw a parallel between their unit and the Nazi Schutzstaffel, or S.S., unit, that used the skull-and-crossbones image.

“They literally, deliberately, selected it because it was relevant to their military unit,” she said.

an excerpt from Dale Pollock's Skywalking that details the influence Marcia Lucas had on Raiders of the Lost Ark
“George had a secret weapon in Marcia. Like every director who has
worked with her, Spielberg thinks she has an excellent eye. Marcia is
indispensable to Lucas because she compensates for his deficiencies.
Where George is not unduly concerned with character and lacks faith in the audience's patience, Marcia figures out how a movie can be made warmer, how the characters can be given depth and resonance. She was instrumental in changing the ending of Raiders, in which Indiana delivers the Ark to Washington. Marion is nowhere to be seen, presumably stranded on an island with a submarine and a lot of melted Nazis. Marcia watched the rough cut in silence and then leveled the boom. She said there was no emotional resolution to the ending, because the girl disappears. "Everyone was feeling real good until she said that," Dunham recalls. "It was one of those, `Oh, no, we lost sight of that."' Spielberg reshot the scene in downtown San Francisco, having Marion wait for Indiana on the steps of the government building. Marcia, once again, had come to the rescue.”

Denmark's coal-to-wind transition is one of the most dramatic energy transformations of the past three decades. In 1990, coal provided 90% of Danish electricity. Today it is under 3%. Wind now covers roughly 60% of electricity generation. The last coal plant is scheduled to close by 2028.

Folks online are criticizing Boots Riley because his new film was produced by Megan Ellison, the daughter of Larry Ellison, and they see this as an ethical lapse. It made me think of Roger Ebert's review of Reds, a reminder that the movie business - all art, really - requires patronage.
As for Beatty, “Reds” is his bravura turn. He got the idea, nurtured it for a decade, found the financing, wrote most of the script, produced, and directed and starred and still found enough artistic detachment to make his Reed into a flawed, fascinating enigma instead of a boring archetypal hero. I liked this movie. I felt a real fondness for it. It was quite a subject to spring on the capitalist Hollywood movie system, and maybe only Beatty could have raised $35 million to make a movie about a man who hated millionaires. I noticed, here at the end of the credits, a wonderful line that reads: Copyright copy MCMLXXXI Barclays Mercantile Industrial Finance Limited.

John Reed would have loved that.
