The bluebells are asleep 😴 This is when the hard work starts as it’s the only time humans step on the bluebell fields Poorly trees come down, & paths are replaced with them. Also the brambles encroaching on the paths can be trimmed now the resident birds are not nesting

The thing that kills me about these stories is NOT just the use of AI but it's like they turned their brains off. They summited at 7pm they should have realized it was getting dark and turned around long before they did.

A weekend spent working the trail turned this section of ankle breakers into a perfect path for any hiker! Years of winter storms washed away the original gravel trail bed, so #patc volunteers refilled it with additional check dams to keep the gravel in place. #hiking #snp #nationalparks
Before and after pictures of Piney Branch Trail in Shenandoah National Park. Trail on the left is the result of years of floods washing away smaller stones and gravel, leaving only "ankle breaker" rocks in the trail. On the right is the same trail after Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) volunteers recovered gravel from down hill and refilled the trail bed. The large stone steps or "check dams" will help hold the gravel in place and limit the ability for floods to dislodge the gravel from the trail.

Incredible stuff from Avalon Nursery.
Guys I’m sorry about my last few posts picking on Agapanthus & Yuccas. I understand lots of you like these plants so I do apologise. I will admit, there is a time and a place for all plants including those two. And that time is never and that place is hell. Bye

My day job is at a rural branch of a public library, and we have a Pride display. Yesterday I was at the desk when a man came in. Fifties, maybe, or sixties. Plaid shirt, mesh trucker cap, suspenders. He went up to the display and just stood there for a long moment. Then he came up to the desk. 🧵 1/

Spring means trail work is in full swing, clearing winter blow downs and getting things ready for the summer hiking season. With more and more people showing up to volunteer, we've also been providing on-the-trail training opportunities to get folks up to speed. #hiking #AT #SNP #NPS #PATC
Two new Potomac Appalachian Trail Club volunteers pry out a rock in order to widen a water bar drain. Water bars are meant to divert water off the trail to prevent erosion, and by widening the drain the structure should be more effective and require less ongoing maintenance to clear out dirt and leaves.

A comic in shades of mauve. In the top panel, a person is holding their head and saying “Oh no! The rare cherry tree grandma brought with her from the old country! It’s been chopped down!! And only a week after my new neighbor complained about it blocking his view!”

In the second panel a disembodied voice says “Tree law?” followed by a sequence of besuited people popping out from behind fences and bushes with briefcases repeating “Tree law!!”

The last panel shows the person who lost the tree, wide-eyed, being carried on the shoulders of a crowd of people with torches and pitchforks, and with a shower of bills falling from the sky. The crowd is chanting “TREE! LAW! TREE! LAW!”

Off and on it
[Scene is heaven, in clouds. JESUS, acting as God’s PA, is briefing God, a big ball of light with arms sat at an executive desk, with a computer on it].

Jesus [holding a tablet computer]:

OK, so -

The next one to check in on is…

 ‘Earth’.

God: Spelling?

Jesus: E-A-R-T-H.

[God types into the computer]

tap-tap-tap-tap-tap. Tap.

God: F—ing hell.

What’s happened here!?

We need to complain - get me the manager.

Jesus: Uh, well, the most powerful one is…

[Jesus turns his iPad round to show God. We can’t see the screen]

God: What is that.

I mean, it’s been a while but that’s definitely not how I designed them. Are you sure we’ve got the right planet?

Jesus: Yes, this is the… top human.

God: Off and on it again

Jesus: I’ll book the meteor

[Ends]
