Today about 100 people took part in a mass trespass in the Prime Minister’s constituency. There’s a right to roam over just 1% of Makerfield, & today the landowner proved our point for us: putting up fencing & calling the police. @andyburnham.bsky.social - please open the door to the countryside!

Great work here; ‘many designated long-distance walking trails are named after rivers they cannot follow’ including the Test Way that begins where I live, ‘a 44-mile (71km) walk named after the chalk stream [that] does not follow the river itself.’

As an immigrant, one of the most confusing things about the UK is how swimming outdoors is treated as an extreme, taboo, inherently dangerous act. I understand the water temperature is generally lower in the summer than where I come from, but that alone doesn’t explain it.
