Legendary Japanese photographer Masahisa Fukase gently helping his beloved cat, Sasuke, drink water from a temizuya (water purification pavilion) at a Japanese shrine.

Crouched beside a massive, dark stone water basin (chōzubachi), the subject holds a long-handled ladle (hishaku) low to the ground so a small, spotted cat can drink. One hand rests with tender protection across the feline’s back as it stretches forward to lap water from the metal bowl. Above the carved stone, bamboo racks support an array of resting ladles, while polished river pebbles glisten in the drainage trough below. Captured in soft, monochromatic silver tones, the photograph evokes a deeply tender sensory atmosphere: the cool, steady drip of spring water splashing against wet river stones, the faint clink of a metal ladle against stone, the rhythmic sound of lapping water, and the quiet, reverent stillness of a sanctuary courtyard sheltered from the rushing world. This intimate moment captures legendary photographer Masahisa Fukase (1934–2012) and his iconic feline companion, Sasuke, whose playful and enigmatic presence became the central subject of Fukase’s celebrated photobooks in the late 1970s. In Shinto tradition, the temizuya (or chōzuya) serves as a sacred pavilion where worshipers perform ritual purification (misogi) by rinsing their hands and mouth before entering the shrine precinct. Fukase’s gentle extension of this purification ritual to sustain a small kitten bridges the solemnity of ancestral spiritual practice with the tender, unvarnished intimacy of daily life.

Hate it when you see what you think is a cool bird and you look it up later and it’s called like the Common Dumb Asshole. “Birders throughout history have hated its guts. It can’t even fly right.” I thought I saw an interesting guy.

A good fresh Star Trek take on those fake isekai title jokes

A tumblr screenshot showing a post and two reblog responses, reading:
1. "star trek would be the ideal fictional universe to get trapped in because you'd explain your situation and they'd be like yeah makes sense. no further questions. fortunately we can use the mysterious warp signature emitting from this system's icy moon to counterface with the solar radiation and slingshot you back home"
2. "I'm from a universe where your world is all a work of fiction." Benjamin Sisko, nodding. "That happened to me once."
3. "I Got Isekaid Into The Star Trek Universe And They Quickly Understood What Was Happening"

been trying to put my finger on why i like early gintama anime better than late. for a while i thought it was just that i preferred the overall style looking a little more Retro but i figured another thing out last night: i think older gintama has higher gag density, esp little throwaway visual gags

Decided to rewatch Gintama and it has been the best choice I've made in my life #gintama #kagura #gintamafanart #fanart #artsky

A colored digital drawing of Kagura. She is mid-jump, one leg bent at the knee. She holds an umbrella in her left arm, her right hand outstreched and open wide towards the viewer. She is smiling.

Remember when Crunchyroll tried to make their subtitles significantly worse a year ago? They backtracked on it at the time, but I suspected they were just delaying their plans to shift from Aegisub to OOONA, and sadly, it seems I was right: Crunchyroll is actively pushing OOONA subs to users now.
