When the story of why humanity didn't stop climate change is written, it will feature front pages like this. Even as the skies blacken with climate change-induced wildfires, right wing media continue their relentless crusade against measures to tackle it.

AI produced fake vox pops. Lovely. Actually I agree, the UK should produce its own energy, and is getting a long way towards that through renewables. Probably the UK should avoid buses driving on pavements and mowing down pedestrians, though.

The term “drone” is infuriatingly non-specific (and I’ve been harping on this topic for over a decade now, like in the piece linked here). there are still WAY too many people out there in 2026 assuming Predator drones and quadcopters can do the same thing. faineg.medium.com/the-ascent-o...

the fact that we still use the word "drone" to refer to all four of these things has done immense damage to the public understanding of warfare. people really think ships are getting sunk by quadcopters

FAUXPOLEON: I heard — and I don’t know if it’s true — that DOGS are just genetically modified HUMAN INFANTS. Isn’t that OUTRAGEOUS? Who DID that? What ELSE don’t we know about dogs??

E’PAUL: That is not true.

FAUXPOLEON: I don’t KNOW if it’s true or not. But just think of what it MEANS! People EXPERIMENTING on BABIES!

E’PAUL: Indeed. Good thing it’s not true!

FAUXPOLEON: You gotta ADMIT that it’s SCARY to think about!

E’PAUL: As a thought experiment? Okay. As a falsehood examined AS a falsehood on its face? Okay.

E’PAUL: As a valid piece of actual real information worth debating as if it WERE true when it is demonstrably NOT? No.

FAUXPOLEON: It MIGHT be true!

E’PAUL: It is not.

FAUXPOLEON: It might be SOMEDAY.

E’PAUL: Okay.

FAUXPOLEON: What should we DO about it?

E’PAUL: Nothing.

FAUXPOLEON: You’re so PASSIVE. You never want to take a STAND.

E’PAUL: For… for DOGS BEING INFANTS? This is the hill you want to die on, huh

This was my instinct with it as well: it's *hard* and it takes a lot of work, but that's because the tools are shitty. Like, you can make great art with limited resources - sometimes it even helps! - but genAI is almost actively working *against* artistry because of the way it's created.
