Dolly didn't just say be who you are and you are enough -- and she sure did, a lot -- her whole deal was, "whatever you are, BE MORE OF THAT, BABY, GO FOR IT, I LOVE YOU." all we can do is try to pass on a little of that energy in this mean world.

1/ You may have seen headlines that AI created this cancer vaccine, but that's not quite right. Merck and Moderna just announced strong Phase 3 results for a personalized melanoma therapy. Here's what AI actually did, and didn't do.

4/ A pattern to watch for future headlines: a real, narrow AI contribution gets flattened into "AI did X" because it's a better headline than "an algorithm handled one step in a multi-year pipeline built on immunology, chemistry, and clinical trial science." The boring version is the true one.

5/ Also worth knowing: this program started in 2016, years before today's AI wave. The kind of algorithm typically used for this task (predicting which tumor mutations will trigger an immune response) is older-style machine learning, not the type of LLM/chatbot people now picture when they hear 'AI'

In the Renaissance people theorized, since the Aeneid is great, if you wrote poems made only of words & phrases from the Aeneid rearranged they should be great too, since a great source regurgitated should yield greatness. They produced NOTHING we still read. Thinking about that a lot lately.

This is about 80% correct IMO -- denying revenue to individuals or businesses who may depend on it is bad; on the other hand, reducing the number of advertisements in the world is a social good.

My first introduction to this actually real phenomenon was Acerfur. Ever after, whenever an online discussion of Lean gets too technical, I realize every avatar is in a fursuit. COMIC ◆ www.smbc-comics.com/comic/fur PATREON ◆ www.patreon.com/ZachWeinersm... STORE ◆ smbc-store.myshopify.com
5-panel SMBC comic update. Two women talk as they walk on a beach. The first asks "why do people say furries run every IT department?" This leads the second to start a passionate explanation over 4 panels, where she states: "that’s an outdated stereotype. The internet is indeed sustained by furries, but your modern furry is also the core user of automated proof solvers tied to machine learning. Furries don’t just run IT. They run math itself. Soon we will open nature’s book, written in the language of god, and only the furries will know how to read!" After the speech, the first woman reacts by saying "woof," as an expression similar to "yikes" or "wow," and the second woman responds "precisely," associating it with the sound of an animal.
