With the notable and singular exception of Gavin Bazunu, the FAI made us all complicit in this, and we just forgot about it and ignored it.

We have yoto players which are similar but it doesn't replace story time, it's more like a toy. We have cards for music as well as books and they have a lot of dance parties. But I also see where you're coming from, parent need to know that story time isn't just about children hearing a story.

Anthropic banning “abusive or cruel behavior” toward Claude in its new usage policies is proof to me that tech companies are going to moderate violence against AI before they ever moderate violence against women and minorities

Would like to see a journalist ask the 7 of Ireland's 14 MEPs (3 FG, 3 FF, 1 II) who just voted to: -endorse burqa bans -call "hatred of Israel" a sign of "Islamist influence" -identify European Muslim communities as potential tools of "malign foreign actors" to justify themselves
Believes that the practice of concealing the face in public spaces and premises open to the public poses an unacceptable challenge to public security, identification and effective law enforcement; supports, therefore, all national measures aimed at prohibiting full-face coverings (niqab or burqa) in public spaces and premises open to the public as a necessary step to ensure social cohesion, public safety and the protection of the rights and freedoms of others, in particular womenwhereas separatist narratives, systematic victimhood, antisemitism, anti-Christian hatred, hatred of Israel, conspiracy narratives, challenges to secularism, the use of religion as a tool of social control or the contestation of equality between women and men may constitute markers of ideological radicalisation or Islamist influence;whereas the ongoing investigations into suspected electoral fraud in Borlänge and Järva, Sweden, illustrate the particular vulnerability of diaspora communities to organised attempts at electoral influence; whereas such vulnerabilities may be exploited by malign foreign actors or transnational ideological networks pursuing covert agendas

I've got three kids and I've used white noise machines and I get what you're saying but there is something different about it. I think it's substituting a human voice shushing that got me, both as a parent and someone who works with babies. Like I can't make a womb like swishing noise or white noise

As someone who works with infants professionally I need people to know it's not the word "Shush" that soothes the baby. It's the blowing of your breath as you say it. The warmth of your body. The vibration they feel from your chest as you make the noise. The smell of your skin as they lie on you.

Oh also a few weeks ago I was in H&M and there was a woman browsing while her bBaby slept in the buggy. Her phone was wedged between the bag Y and the buggy and playing a voice making shushing sounds.

My wife: Can we go to counselling? Me: We can just watch Marriage Story instead. My wife: I'm leaving you. Me: That's OK, Claudia understands me better than you ever will. My wife: I'm taking the baby with me. Me: What baby?

That’s the people she’s playing to, and what’s worse, they’re decision makers. They move up the ranks in planning and policy development jobs, finance, medicine, law etc, jobs that have real impact on people’s lives, and they take their class prejudice with them - it bleeds into their decisions

Moving classes has opened my eyes to what upper middle, class people think “welfare” is. They don’t know what it means. I overheard 3 wealthy quantity surveyors tell each other council houses were free, no rent to be paid, they all genuinely believed this to be true. The gulf is enormous

We’ve had to listen to some very unimpressive TDs talk shit about public sector workers needing to prove their worth and up their game. Meanwhile the sight of an almost-empty greyhound track and the yelping of mistreated animals gets them humming the national anthem as a tear rolls down their cheek

Checking in on the budget. Wondering which voters’ needs are being prioritised.
THE IRISH TIMES
• Reductions in tax for middle-income earners will be worth up to €1,500 for a couple with a combined income of €100,000
• Minimum wage set to rise 79 cent to €14.94
• Tax-free threshold for earnings under the rent-a-room relief will rise to
€16,000

That cap reduction by the way was moving from 198 per week to 183 per week. So that would have been about €60 saving per month per child if that hadn't been the straw that broke the camel's back for our creche

The scheme aims to increase childcare affordability but some providers who have left are pushing up their prices by over €300 a month.

I've said it before. A Government party isn't your team to root for, it's a utility provider. You don't have to like them, you just pick the one that works best. The utilities that keep giving you some of your own money back are the ones acknowledging a failure to provide the service you requested

Taxes are fucking great. They offer the benefit of bulk buying power while reducing my day to day admin. Not getting the services you need because your government can't figure out how to invest in the country to provide those services SUCKS. Don't get rid of the taxes - Get rid of the government
