Framlingham is known for its two well early 'Handyside' letter boxes, but the town also has this classic GPO pairing of a K6 kiosk and an EiiR Type 'A' pillar. The phone box has been converted into a teeny tiny exhibition centre. The letter box hasn't been converted into anything. #PostBoxSaturday
On the left - a traditional red 'K6' telephone box, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the coronation of King George V in 1935. To the right, an red EiiR Type 'A' pillar box. If you can wrap your arms around it, it's a type 'B'. Go out and hug your nearest pillar box! Go on!

The phone box has been converted into a little exhibition space called 'The Kiosk on the Hill'. The displays within promote local services, upcoming events, anniversaries, school and club projects, work by local artists, and all sorts of things of interest to the local community. It says here... https://www.hourcommunity.co.uk/kioskA general view of the town centre of Framlingham. A red phone box, a red letter box, the town sign, cars spoiling the view, bunting, the little shop that was a filming location for 'Detectorists'. It's all unspeakably wretched.

Christ Church Spitalfields is the best Hawksmoor church & the best building in London I think, but at St Mary Woolnoth he lays his cards on the table - he’s not unsettling but scary. For the optimisitic a statement about the fear of God, for others (London doesn’t foster optimism) rather different..

Yes, not all men. But a worryingly large percentage of men are domestic abusers and sex offenders and they don't wear a sign round their neck advertising that, so if she doesn't know you then you are a potential danger. Stop whining about it and start fixing it.

Morning. Last week I found out for the first time that Champion The Wonder Horse (stalwart black and white 50s schedule filler up to 1993) was a spin-off. Champion was Gene Autry’s horse, and it was a 1955 cash in on the success of the Gene Autry Show. He’s like horse Frasier.

Facts and Figures
The Tower itself is 619 feet high including the 40ft steel lattice mast. The aerials and associated radio equipment will eventually provide for as many as 100,000 simultaneous telephone conversations and up to 40 television channels.
Total weight, including foundations, 13,000 tons.
95 tons of high tensile steel were used to reinforce the base and 685 tons of mild steel to reinforce the Tower itself.
The two lifts travel at 1,000 feet a minute. The rear of the box, which features an image of the Tower. For the detail of the blurb on the back, see the previous image.

As the blue plaque records Peter Schuyler Bruff 1812-1900 masterminded the building of the railway to Ipswich so it is appropriate that there should be a Victorian postbox at the station. #PostboxSaturday #Ipswich #Suffolk

Spotted this type 'C' double-pillar and, surprisingly, a disused post-mounted stamp vending machine, whilst walking along Caledonian Road, January 1st 2023. This SVM type was battery powered; unreliable and costly to maintain. Both box and SVM have since been removed. #PostBoxSaturday
A red double aperture oval section 'Type C' letter box and its accompanying electronic stamp vending machine in the form of a red box on a black post. We are at the junction of Caledonian Road and Frederica Street, London N7, not far from Caledonian Road and Barnsbury Overground Station. Both were removed between July 2024 and September 2025 based on Google Streetview imagery. There is a grey building in the background - Doyle’s Tavern - a black litter bin and a lockable bike storage unit to the right. A 1980s style red rectangular stamp vending machine on a black post. From top to bottom the legend 'ROYAL MAIL' in yellow, the coin slot, vend button, stamp aperture, coin return slot, keyhole, the legend 'Stamps'

Stamp Vending Machine facts from Wikipedia

 - By 1970, there were about 50,000 stamp selling machines being used in the UK

- The basic design remained unchanged from 1905 until 1970

- Most share the same common features that contributed to their success; they all have a stamp feed wheel with pins which accurately interlock with the stamp perforations and they all derive the energy needed to operate the mechanism from the raising of a weight through the insertion of a coin.

- the machine illustrated is a later electro-mechanical type, introduced n the 1980s and powered by a battery. This made them expensive to service and more unreliable than the purely mechanical designs.

- As stamp booklets can now be widely purchased from supermarkets, garages, kiosks and newsagents, demand for automatic vending facilities has declined to the point where their continued operation has become un-economic. Those that remain are found inside Post Offices.

Elite was released 42 years ago. This space trading open world game is considered to be the forerunner of many modern games, as well as being an important milestone in the history of space sci-fi. Art by Philip Castle🔽
Box art by Philip Castle.

The image is dominated by the game's title, "ELITE," rendered in a bold, golden 3D font with large, stylized wings, resembling a prestigious pilot's insignia. The scene depicts key elements from the game:

The Cobra Mk III: The sleek, saucer-shaped ship in the foreground is the player's starting vessel, the legendary Cobra Mk III.

Coriolis Station: The massive, geometric structure is a Coriolis space station, the rotating hubs of trade and commerce where players would dock.
