What happened to “I can’t do anything as I’m sticking to the Manifesto”? Funny how they can do all the things that make people’s lives worse, even though they aren’t in the manifeso, but doing anything that would help “Sorry, impossible as it’s not in the manifesto”

My mum volunteered at a coffee morning where the ladies in their 80s+ asked another volunteer not to play Vera Lynn because they didn't want to think about the war. Which is kind of obvious, but not often considered. We would be horrified to be pigeonholed like this ourselves.

The Israeli bombardment of Gaza is intensifying violently. I do not know who made the world believe there is a ceasefire in Gaza; every day we are slaughtered and killed with new bombs and new explosives, as if we are a testing ground for America and Israel. All I ask of you is not to forget Gaza.

Think I'm going to go mad if I see another person say "they're coming for disabled people next!" When have they not been coming for disabled people? Certainly officially since 2010 Cameron/Osbourne, and orchestrated media attacks on people with ME since the 90s.

sth I think about a lot is how exercise is casually framed as virtuous, wholly beneficial activity by just about everyone--including people who think they're body-positive, disability allies, etc.--to the point that we're trained to ignore our own bodies' alarms about pain and fatigue

One of many utterly unjust laws that Labour have implemented. This does nothing to deter boat crossings, or punish those who endanger people by overloading boats or providing no safety equipment. All it does is further criminalise the incredibly vulnerable and desperate people making the crossings.

I find it pretty much impossible to imagine having a body that has endless energy, a body that gets stronger the more exercise you do - imagine that! - and I guess part of the problem is that the people with energy can't imagine not having it and why they think chronic illness is a mindset problem

Both our government and many members of the public simply do not believe that there are as many disabled people in the UK as there are, despite the fact we have also been marking five years of failing to mitigate infections with a disabling novel virus, whose appearance coincides with the sudden rise in chronic physical and mental health conditions in our population.
Rather than admit that the rise in people unable to work due to sickness may be a direct result of unchecked spread of the pandemic, our leaders would rather perpetuate the idea that a large number of the people currently claiming disability benefits are not disabled at all, merely 'overdiagnosed' - either confused or out and out taking it.There is no world in which retusing us appropriate care
is in any way helptul or can plausibly reduce actual experiential illness, rather than statistical diagnosed illness. The longer a condition goes untreated, unmanaged, the more it is likely to worsen and develop comorbities. What actually 'promotes chronicity, in the negative sense it is meant in the original quote, is delayed diagnosis, misdiagnosis, undiagnosis and the lack of appropriate and timely care they create. We cannot ignore chronic illness into wellness, we cannot ignore it into non-existence.

one of the things i love most about doing these experiments is the unexpected textures that happen. This one is ink & wax pencils layered up and scratched into, creating a really dense heavy texture. The drawings are mounted so they can be framed but the surface is kept off the glass to protect it.
