We have biomarkers in #LongCovid, including results from scans and tissue biopsies, to name a few. Trials and treatments (where possible) should revolve around these findings, in addition to using symptom-based questionnaires. But many I see revolve around the questionnaires ..

#LongCovid is not a neuroimmune disorder. It's a multi-system disease entity with damage well documented in situ across multiple organs and tissues. Neurological and immune manifestations are important, but so is pathology affecting other body systems. Patient care for all is key

A few scientific facts. Covid is a multi-system disease with sequelae in all organs. SARS-CoV-2 didn't not disappear; actually a new variant is on the rise in multiple countries (PJ.2.1). It's not endemic. SARS-CoV-2 is airborne, namely it can spread and linger in the air a bit like cigarette smoke.

America had wiped out measles. Now babies are infected at birth.
Congenital measles has rarely been seen in the U.S. That’s changing as vaccination declines and more pregnant women become infected.

Oh yes, and my first Covid infection led to blood clots in my leg, which dislodged, passed through my heart and could well have killed me as they lodged in my lungs. Is risking another #PulmonaryEmbolism an acceptable risk? I have been offered a free Flu vaccination; isn't Covid more dangerous?

Denying or minimizing the reality that we perfectly understand the reality of many of the biological sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (e.g. www.mdpi.com/3796376) can contribute to the gaslighting of people living with #LongCovid

This from a recent Guardian article is not good coverage of #LongCovid. There are half a million scientific papers on Covid/Long Covid, starting from 2020. We already have a good understanding of LC biomedical underpinnings. Helping people with LC would be being crystal clear about the science

This new one represents a second independent acquisition of A475V by PJ.2.1. I think seeing A475V twice already—in addition to the existing reasons to think it could be advantageous in PJ.2.1 (see next post)—mean it's very likely that A475V will grow faster than baseline PJ.2.1.

COVlD-associated hospitalizations are exploding in NYC. This is quite serious. Due to vaccinations and prior mortality, the acute effects of infection are often less obviously apparent in 2026. It's a testament to the high transmission. Screenshot from @datareport.bsky.social via the devil app.

If studies and institutions don't have the possibility to address putative #LongCovid biomarkers because of e.g. a lack of equipment, it shouldn't be said there are no biomarkers for LC. Rather, as a general rule, it should be clarified key biomarkers can't always be assessed.

Proteins involved in the generation of ROS are increased in neutrophils from patients with COVID-19. (A) BALs from pneumonia patients were analyzed, and evaluated cohorts were divided into patients with pneumonia without COVID-19 (13 patients) and COVID-19 (22 patients). (B) Single-cell RNA sequencing demonstrates the cell types present during COVID-19 infection and pneumonia without COVID-19. (C) Analysis of genes that encode NOX2-forming proteins in neutrophils from BAL of patients with COVID-19. (D) Assessment of labeling with the MitoSOX staining in airway aspirate from a patient with COVID-19. Do some patient organisations know that researchers and clinicians do not need to be appeased and worshiped, that giving needed criticism on their work is necessary and that big names will not stop research in the field that made their career just because patient groups criticised their studies?

Some people really think that a peer-reviewed study is perfect and no one is allowed to criticise it, especially if a big name is associated with it. A peer-reviewed study is always subjected to post-publication criticism, and sometimes corrected if errors are found, or even retracted if fraudulent.

What we almost always discover is academic bullies and bigots don't stop, so if they aren't tackled firmly and early they grow more powerful. It's also true that they'll position themselves as victims. And they will always have supporters and further opportunities. Their victims fare less well /5

Decades of research on bullying in academia tells us abusers are usually known in HEIs (including to HR). They typically stay in post, or are promoted. Their victims (within and outside the uni) are the ones who quit, step down, or are hurt. HEIs generally only act when their reputations are hit /1
