This can come close to MCU-like refusing to take anything seriously, but I don't think it's quite that. Just affirming that while the stakes may be very real to the character experiencing the emotional turmoil, it may still be annoying to lookers-on.

ngl, I love this sort of thing, having characters take the piss out of the DRAMA another character is going through. Like when the supporting characters on 'Angel' did impressions of Angel and Buffy: "Oh, Buffy, I love you so much I almost forgot to brood!"
