So they made a lot of changes in adapting IwtV into a show, but they were smart about it and actually found something to say (and now they're on to the unadapted material which they're clearly having a blast with). The Dune movies were in a similar situation and clearly eager to move to the sequels

To use an actually good example, the makers of the Interview with the Vampire/Lestat show clearly wanted to make a series that would touch on the later books, but the "name brand" is IwtV, so they have to do that one first, but it already had a well-liked adaptation so it's tricky for them
