It's very easy to wear a suit and tie in any major city, even if the aesthetic has mostly disappeared from daily life, because there are people outside wearing pink tutus with Army boots. As usual, your liberation is connected to other people's liberation.
Bobby Mars on Twitter writes: "If you wear a collared shirt and nice shoes out to the bar in the rust belt, multiple people will ask you if you just came from a wedding. Aesthetic standards for men’s attire are horrendously low"

You have more in common with the people of Iran than you do with anyone in this administration, any member of the technocracy, anyone who is profiting from this war, or any billionaire. When you see Iranians forming human chains outside key infrastructure sites, you should feel a sense of kinship.

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

COVID-19 levels are increasing across most of the U.S. as of late December. But flu is overshadowing COVID-19 in healthcare system impacts and headlines. For both viruses, similar precautions (like high-quality masks and improving air quality) work to reduce your risk of infection. bit.ly/3LhxKd2
Graphic from The Sick Times sharing the latest COVID-19 trends for January 6, 2026. The graphic presents trends for three metrics: WastewaterSCAN category for SARS-CoV-2, which is "high" (represented with a red color) and reports a significant increase (represented with an up arrow); CDC wastewater viral activity level for SARS-Cov-2, which is "moderate*" (orange) and reports a slight increase (diagonal up arrow), and CDC COVID-19 test positivity, which is moderate (darker yellow) and stable (side to side arrow). Text below these metrics reads: "* CDC wastewater viral activity levels are calculated based on measurements in the last two years only. They do not account for the lower spread that could be possible with more widespread precautions."

Here's a really easy New Year's Resolution: If you're sick with something contagious, you will stay home if your circumstances allow. If you can't stay home, you will mask around others until there is no possibility you are contagious. By making these choices, you will literally save lives.

BLUF: Press is talking about "Super Flu" bc this year's dominant strain isn't a great match to the vaccine. Get vax'd anyway (consider the high-dose vax), wear a mask (protects against airborne pathogens), and have a testing + treatment strategy ahead of time because viral replication is exponential

Guess I'll post this again
A digital poster in the style of a World War II propaganda piece. Isolaed on a yellow background, a normal, squarish, 20-something guy with glasses is sitting working on a laptop. A ghostly figure of Hitler has his arm around the guy and is grinning and shaking a fist triumphantly looking at the laptop screen. On the lid of the laptop where an apple might otherwise be is an openAI logo, bright green, and dripping green ooze down the lid. Text on the poster, in combinations of sans-serif type and brush script reads:
Using Generative AI?
You’re prompting with Hitler!
GenAI is a Fascist Project!
Try using your brain instead
Don’t surrender your creativity to the tech billionaire’s control

Look at the date. Disabled people told you. They made too many disabled people.
A tweet from imani on 12/19/2020 quoting Gregory Mansfield about making assisted suicide available before healthcare. Her quote reads: This is what l've been saying, with a massive influx of disabled people from COVID, we're going to see a huge influx of assisted suicide programs and legislation because the system barely worked ahead of the pandemic.

a short story about blood
When I pulled my cardigan on, I thought I'd caught a wet wipe in my sleeve but it was blood pouring out my arm.

The doctor was terribly embarrassed, but made a little joke about throwing in a free shower as she cleaned me up.

I find medical staff are far more flustered about this happening than I am.

Once someone took my blood into one vial and used a syringe to separate it out into three, but the needle snapped and splattered my blood across me, him and the entire cubicle. He looked horrified and said “I've been doing this for 25 years and that's never happened to me before."

I couldn't help but reply “I bet you say that to all the girls" and I thought for a second he might cry.

COVID-19 spread remains high across the U.S. as our summer surge continues into early fall. As a new school year gets underway, young children remain vulnerable: emergency department visits for COVID-19 were higher for children under 12 than any other age group in late August. bit.ly/41y1HdG
ID 1 and 2: An orange background and a meter indicating moderate wastewater levels of SARS-CoV-2. The text reads: COVID-19 spread remains high across the U.S. as our summer surge continues into early fall. All major metrics went up through late August, though some infectious disease experts predict this wave may peak soon.

Wastewater data from the CDC and WastewaterSCAN show significant — but slowing — increases in national SARS-CoV-2 spread in recent weeks. After a big jump in early August (over 50%), the CDC’s estimated national wastewater viral activity level went up by 15% between August 9 and 16, then decreased by 1% between August 16 and 23. These are preliminary data, however, and may change in the next update.

As a new school year gets underway across the U.S., young children remain vulnerable to COVID-19 and Long COVID: emergency department visits for COVID-19 were higher for children under 12 than any other age group in late August. But children will face new barriers to getting vaccinated following last week’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) decision, as will adults under age 65.

It’s currently unclear exactly how the new FDA labels will be implemented (as different insurance companies and pharmacy chains may decide on different policies), but a New York Times report suggests access challenges may vary by state. Some states may push back on the FDA restrictions: New Mexico’s health department recently ruled to make COVID-19 vaccines broadly accessible in that state. Other state agencies may take similar approaches; we will share more updates as they become available."ID 1 and 2: An orange background and a meter indicating moderate wastewater levels of SARS-CoV-2. Each bar in the chart represents variant prevalence for a given month using sections in different colors, going from September 2024 to August 2025. In fall 2024, the most prevalent variant was KP3.1.1 in teal, followed by LP.8.1 in orange in early 2025, and most recently XFG in periwinkle for summer 2025. In its most recent update, for August 2025, the CDC estimates that XFG caused 73% to 85% of U.S. COVID-19 cases.
