EXTREMELY interesting Gallup poll on American responses to data centres here First I've seen break down sub-reasons, and most of it relates to environment / resources, particularly water consumption and energy / power bill impacts. Hatred of AI is there, but small news.gallup.com/poll/709772/...
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Seven in 10 Americans oppose constructing data centers for artificial intelligence in their local area, including nearly half, 48%, who are strongly opposed. Barely a quarter favor these projects, with 7% strongly in favor.

These results, from a March 2-18 Gallup survey, represent the first time Gallup has asked about data center construction, a topic that has met fierce opposition from local residents in many parts of the country. These data centers house computing equipment that helps power AI technology used by businesses, universities and other institutions. The centers cover large areas of land, require extensive amounts of electricity to operate and need substantial water to cool the equipment, raising concerns about their impact on the environment and local electric bills.Reasons Americans Oppose Data Centers in Their Local Area
What are some of the reasons you would oppose the construction of a data center in your area?

Howard was a disaster not just for the Liberal Party but for Australia. His legacy lives on in the divisions in modern Australia. Great article here by Patricia Karvalas exploring one part of this; how the Liberal Party abandoned women’s issues. #AusPol

Howard paved the way for Abbott, Morrison and the Liberal Party's 'women problem'
New analysis argues that under John Howard, the Liberal Party became increasingly influenced by a social conservatism that emphasised traditional gender norms.

There was a column in the SMH about how a couple with $8m in combined super wanted to avoid paying tax. The columnist pointed out if one super balance went from $3.0m to $3.4m the liability for the new super tax would be.... $7,056. Yep on $400,000 earnings www.theguardian.com/business/gro...

Key aspect was that 1 in 5 people thought the changes to tax concessions of super balances over $3m would affect them. In reality, it's about 1 in 200. Easy test: if you don't know how much is in your super you won't be affected (because people with $3m in their super sure as sh*t know it)
