I see that the Wikipedia article on Jews in Algeria has been rewritten to cast Jews as collaborators and a fifth column and downplays the removal of Algerian citizenship. Also a neat trick to define the synagogue of Algiers as abandoned by Jews.

It sucks that Palestinians have such shitty allies. But antisemitism is deeply baked into the world, and anyone wading into activism on the conflict needs to educate themselves to see it where it's hiding.

Christians also have a LOT more alternative options in most countries than Jews do as well. Yet the focus is on Jews, because some of you refuse to examine your own latent prejudices and preconceptions about the world.

I've seen plenty of people on the left insist that any Jew who attends a Synagogue that takes a pro-Zionist stance should be shunned, but I rarely see that same logic applied to Christians who attend a Church that takes pro-Zionist stances, despite there being more of them numerically.

Please, can we just not do the thing we always do where we treat election counts being reported over time as if it represents a back and forth contest? No one "takes the lead in early vote counts" - the votes have been cast already.

My favorite example is how old Slavic words for "world", derived from Proto Slavic světъ "light" influenced Romanian lume "world", a word clearly from Latin lūmen. It's the only major Romance language where "world" comes from "light", thanks to Slavophone Orthodox Christianity.

What people fail to understand is also that Zionism was not just a plan/ideology for Jews in Palestine, it was also a vision for Jewish *diasporic* identity. Much of Zionist activity has always taken place outside Palestine/Israel and was about communal identity and politics. Hence the attachment.

I was thinking more of the burial place for non working royals. If we want to be serious for a second, to be fair, I don't know. People are still being buried in pretty old/full cemeteries like Verano in Rome. Clearly we have plenty of disused crypts lying around. But urban non active graveyards

Significant numbers of leftists think Mayor Mamdani has betrayed the left by putting out an anti-antisemitism plan at all, and groups that claim to fight antisemitism like the ADL are giving Mamdani zero credit because he has not suddenly endorsed Zionism, and I am caught between and I am tired.

See, it's not "medieval people". The Simon of Trent can be summed up as "malicious political actors abuse of horrific child murder to whip up a frenzy against a minority community for their own political gain". It's not like it doesn't happen in Britain in the 2020s

PS, the discussion which took place in the meeting where the amendment which would have removed the Synagogues element of the motion was debated makes it painfully clear what is going on here. People cannot claim they were not warned. www.jewishnews.co.uk/jewish-green...
The Times described how in response to some members claiming that the amendment proposed by Alston which would have removed the references to Synagogues or organisations was itself conflating Zionism with Judaism, Alston pointed out that in that very meeting, when his brother had stood up to oppose that element of the overall motion, someone had immediately shouted “Zionist” at him.

“He’s a very publicly anti-Zionist Jew, has been so for a long time, and yet still gets tarred with this brush because of his Judaism,” Alston noted, going on to say that “The reason we need this amendment is because, if the Green Party members vote down the idea that the synagogue membership should be protected and should be compatible with Green Party identity, it would be a terrible signal to send to Jewish members and I really think we are not going to do that.”

Despite Alston’s comments, three quarters of attendees subsequently voted against the amendment he had proposed.

FATALITY
A tweet from Joyce Carol Oates: overall takeaway from the Curtis Yarvin profile is that there must be millions of smart-aleck show-offy kids who annoy their teachers and go on to annoy other adults through their lives with their “contrarian” pose that hardens to a carapace over their faces; until, as adults, they still harbor a delusion that, if there is a king, or a fuhrer, he’d be impressed with the guys motor mouth and appoint him to his cabinet rather than deleting him with a negligent swipe of his wrist as Stalin did routinely.
