Time for another #hauntalong recommendation! Today I’m recommending Vincenzo Natali’s Cube (1997), a Canadian sci-fi horror movie about a group of strangers who wake up inside a giant maze of identical rooms. Some of the rooms are safe. Some of them are super not safe.

As it's the spooky month when we talk about Vampires... and the hunting thereof... I've put it on sale for $.99 until the end of the month! Enjoy 🧛‍♀️ itch.io/s/203377/vam...

Day 4. Well it would be nice, if you would watch this movie. I know not every movie is a movie you’ll like. And we gotta think twice, before we give the plot away, and we know all the films you play because we play them too …

The leaves are changing, the skies are gray, and that can only mean one thing: Haunt-Along! My first Haunt-Along pick is Saint Maud, a delightfully unsettling piece of religious horror from director Rose Glass. It's about loneliness, faith, guilt, and a little bit of murder.
A close-up shot of two women's faces close to one another. One woman is reclining, and the other stands over her, a hand on her face, dimly lit by a warm light from offscreen.

Still think it's weird that itch invites people to write reviews for stuff and then doesn't tell the creator (unless the creator happens to follow the reviewer AND clicks on their personal Feed in time). Right? There's no place on my dashboard for me as a creator to click and see reviews.

Good responses here that might help folks navigate the language and actual terms. Everyone handles this a bit differently, and it generally shakes out about the same, but a bad deal and a great one can be an adjective and not a number.

On a personal note: I picked Santet because my late wife and I shared a fascination with the films of Suzzanna. One of our last "couple projects" was working through a box set of Suzzanna movies from Severin Films. I miss watching films with her & trading reviews immediately afterward.

It's Haunt-along season and I'm going to make a case for diversifying your horror diet by talking about SANTET, the first film I ever watched featuring Indonesia's Queen of Horror, Suzzanna. It's got an alligator witch, black magic...a groin-detonating frog... good stuff! Let's dig in!
A poster for SANTET: Ilmu Pelebur Nyawa

The film's star, Suzzanna, stands with her arms raised, small burning pots of flame in her hand. The background has some lightning bolts layered in.

The logo, SANTET, uses a font that makes the word appear to be written in flame.

A coloring page (colored with pencils) of the cover of GHOST COMICS no. 10. In the foreground, a werewolf grabs the arm of a woman in a red nightie. In the upper left, a skeleton looms above some fog, their skull in profile, their chest partially visible. In the background, a row of stiff men and women walk toward the viewer in a line.

shirley jackson you tell em www.newyorker.com/books/page-t...
ar and away the greatest menace to the writer—any writer, beginning or otherwise
—is the reader. The reader is, after all, a kind of silent partner in this whole business of writing, and a work of fiction is surely incomplete if it is never read. The reader is, in fact, the writer's only unrelenting, genuine enemy. He has everything on his side; all he has to do, after all, is shut his eyes, and any work of fiction becomes meaningless. Moreover, a reader has an advantage over a beginning writer in not being a beginning reader; before he takes up a story to read it, he can be presumed to have read everything from Shakespeare to Jack Kerouac. No matter whether he reads a story in manuscript as a great personal favor, or opens a magazine, or—kindest of all—goes into a bookstore and pays good money for a book, he is still an enemy to be defeated with any kind of dirty fighting that comes to the writer's mind.

A 7 panel comic by the artist. First panel: The artist is running from a distance towards a group of people playing basketball in the park. The artist is holding a pumpkin above their head and screaming "AAAAAAAAA". Second panel: The artist has leapt up and is in position to slam dunk the pumpkin into the basketball hoop. Panel three: the pumpkin splatters violently against the backboard of the basketball hoop, sending orange pumpkin goop everywhere. Panel four: the players stand staring, covered in pumpkin goop and shocked. Panel five: the artist stares at them wide-eyed, also covered in the goop and says "it's October FIRST". Their hand reaches towards their face. Panel six: the artist rips off their own face like a rubber mask to reveal a skeleton beneath. Panel 7: the group of players stand shocked and horrified, watching as the skeleton falls to the ground in a pile of bones, the sound effects says "CLATTER".
