A genetically encoded bifunctional enzyme mitigates redox imbalance and lipotoxicity
Nature Metabolism, Published online: 16 February 2026; doi:10.1038/s42255-025-01450-3The authors present a genetically encoded tool based on a bifunctional enzyme that can regenerate NAD+ while executing an engineered glycerol shunt. The tool successfully restored redox imbalance and modulated lipid metabolism in vitro and in a mouse hepatic steatosis model.

Hijacking the powerhouse: Mitochondrial transfer and mitophagy as emerging mechanisms of immune evasion
Cancer cells subvert the immune system by reprogramming their metabolism. In a recent study in Nature, Ikeda et al. show how cancer cells can directly transfer mitophagy-resistant mitochondria to tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, promoting their homoplasmic replacement and undermining cancer immunity.
