It’s truly astonishing to see how comprehensively the US government is tearing down every part of the system that has made it up until now a world-leading power in science, research, and technological development. The entire world will suffer from this wanton destruction.

🧵 Public science in the US has taken some heavy hits over the last year, but the White House OMB is proposing a series of changes that will result in a TKO for science as we know it unless we fight back. Here's what's happening, and why it matters. 1/n

Dear Director Bhattacharya: Assuming you are supportive of the new regulations proposed by the Office of Management and Budget (https://www.federalregister.gov/public-inspection/2026-10817/regulation-for-federal-financial-assistance), I have a few questions for you. This is a partial list of the many that I could pose, based on this expansive assertion of political authority unrelated to scientific content and importance.

Kupffer cells in liver homeostasis and disease: from immune sentinels to metabolic gatekeepers
Nature Reviews Immunology, Published online: 08 April 2026; doi:10.1038/s41577-026-01288-0This Review provides an integrated overview of Kupffer cell biology, from their embryonic origin and spatial organization to their functional specialization within the liver. It emphasizes how Kupffer cells act as immune sentinels while also shaping metabolic regulation, tissue repair, infection and cancer and discusses how emerging technologies are refining our understanding of their context-dependent roles across physiological and pathological settings.
