This stopped me in my tracks. An independent study by @qmul.bsky.social has found that after ULEZ was introduced, children’s lungs grew faster in Central London and have now caught up with children outside of the capital. Incredible.

This is perhaps the thing that's annoyed me most about this government. They have had an opportunity to do something important AND in their political self-interest and instead chose to ignore it.

When I moved to London 5 years ago, I did not think that I would ever wonder if it was safe to move through the city just because of the color of my skin. Today, this is the case. Yet again. Far-right agitators and thugs are roaming the streets. Empowered and emboldened by the rhetoric and politics

Miatta Fahnbulleh, Jess Phillips and Alex Davies Jones; so far all 3 ministerial resignations are women, 2 directly responsible for delivering on the manifesto pledge to halve violence against women and girls. There has been real simmering anger in the women's PLP about not being listened to.

I understand where Labour MPs on the “it’s too soon, best thing is for Keir to govern well and go in 2028” train are coming from. I used to think that myself. But the core problem is Keir won’t and can’t govern well.

Louise Haigh's essay in @renewaljournal.bsky.social is a substantive intervention from Labour's soft left. She wants "not to abandon fiscal discipline, but to redefine it, so that it supports ... the long-term renewal the UK economy". Some thoughts below. renewal.org.uk/articles/a-n...

Ahead of the local elections, here's an easy guide of how best to assess the results as they come in, including the best metrics to use and some historical benchmarks. It's on the longer side, but is split into sections and filled with lots of (hopefully) useful data, and completely free-to-read.

Reform, in theory, could have been a gift to Labour: they divided the Right-wing vote. All Labour had to do was govern in a way that held their Center-Left coalition together Instead, they chose to act foolishly and blow up their own coalition in pursuit of a voting base with no interest in them

I share this sentiment, and I do hope that the EU won't take this as a lesson that with autocrats, it is always best simply to sit back and wait. But for the moment, let's celebrate with the Hungarian citizens for this success of democratic voting!

Entertaining as this spat is, it contains not-a-flicker of recognition as to WHY this might be happening. For 16 months, a tax-exile-oligarch-owned, mostly right-wing press, has abused the privilege of these exclusive private sessions, to misrepresent the gov't on every issue. This is the FO stage.

What folks need to realize about "peace talks" is that this is all theater for Washington. Ukraine knows that Russia has no intention of stopping the war, and the Russians know the Ukrainians know that. So this is just all a performance for Trump, hoping he blames the other for the lack of peace.

If IMF forecasts an improved fiscal path for UK and debt lower than peers, why has the gilt market been uniquely picked on? It hasn't been.
Chart showing (in grey) changed in 10yr govt bond yields YTD for G7 members, with UK 10yr in the middle of the pack.

The government borrowed £151 billion last financial year. Which was £14.6 billion more than the OBR estimate *last month*. And yet their forecasts for five years time are being used as the entire basis for public policy decision making.

JUST IN: Around 50 Titushky broke into the foyer of our Besiki Business Center, and assaulted people, including our members. This is politician Koba Khabazi, covered in blood. UK Visa & Immigration Office, NDI Georgia in the same building. #TerrorinGeorgia #GeorgiaProtestsKoba Khabazi, a member of @CoalitionGEO, is shown with his head covered in blood. 14 years. Fourteen years which started with a couple of school kids going out to paint anti-Assad graffiti, sparking a revolution. Fourteen years of protests and repression. Of war, destruction and mass murder by a desperate regime. 14 years, after which the tide has turned.
