Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

Seeing Digger compared to Kubrick (Dr. Strangelove in particular) but there is a good dose of Gilliam in its DNA too. I enjoyed it. I see why people won't. 2026 has been a year of angry, unsubtle big swing movies.

Solid pair of hands to direct. Kinberg has had some big misses but plenty of hits. Sounds like lessons learned too: the next trilogy needs a cohesive plan. These are all very safe choices and more likely to get a greenlight. Might even incorporate some elements from the various abandoned projects...

Found the last episode of 70Up incredibly moving. The final episode reflecting on the process, acknowledging how Michael Apted was changed and challenged by the process as much as the participants. A profound reflection on what it is to live a life. And what an extraordinary project.

Much as we love bookshops, they need more than love to keep going. A bookshop can be the centre of a whole community. Bookshops support authors; organize events. A thriving bookshop teaches the next generation that literacy matters. So don't just love your bookshop: actually buy books there.

I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed. 25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it! Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.

Just read Chortle's rightly damning review of that AI generated sitcom. Everything in it sounds like hell. A thorough argument for exactly why gatekeepers are good actually. Though lets not with the "maybe AI could be useful in animating a show or something" trying to be fair. Nope. Don't do that.

We run a TV Comedy Writing and Performance module at our University creating multicam sitcom. It probably won't run next year though it remains very popular with students. That makes me sad. It's a skill we will lose to time. www.comedy.co.uk/tv/features/...

The studio sitcom isn't dated - it's been withdrawn from sale - British Comedy Guide
Audiences still love narrative comedy played to a live room, so why have broadcasters stopped making it? The case for bringing the studio audience sitcom back.

SNLUK works so much better with a UK host than a big name Hollywood star. With a UK host it has its own voice and plays to its strengths. (The Hollywood ones are good too, but it is so much stronger when there is less translation between idea and host's cultural grasp)

Replacing television and film with Whatever All This Is has gone so well. The bright future that the disrupters came up with (a version of having a very big hard drive of indifferent content you can’t navigate and don’t value) has worked about as well as it did for music. We’re all so much poorer.

What on earth is happening?
This had become the new normal. RNLI crew members had been forced to take their permits off their cars after their tyres have been repeatedly slashed. Most of them have been pilloried at the school gates or turned away from local pubs. One man who worked in search and rescue had been beaten unconscious and hospitalised, recognised for TV interviews he had done.

If you wanted to make Doctor Who during the hiatus, least you could do is try and do it as a live action fan film. Sure, you might not be able to act. You might have no money. You may literally just be playing with action figures. And you'd STILL more artistic than AI. And I'd respect you.
