They're so desperate to peddle the overdiagnosis narrative they're not even a little bit curious about what the challenges are for people with ADHD or how the modern labour market or health system might be adapted to support them

By far the most amusing solution to the Fermi 'Paradox' is "sorry, space travel is not economically feasible, Enrico Fermi was just wrong in the 1950s."

Far too many people simply hate children for existing
Neighbor blasts an ultrasonic device audible and painful only to children whenever they pass on the public sidewalk.

Was riding bikes with my daughter and a friend to school this morning. We passed a house and they both started yelling, "Ow! It hurts my ears." Really strange, right? Then I hear a voice play through a speaker who says, "If it hurts your ears, ride your bikes somewhere else!"

Now I'm angry. Literally doing nothing but riding bikes to school, probably one of the most wholesome activities a person could imagine, and...I can't even get my brain around it.

It's apparently not loud, but it is tuned to a frequency higher than I can hear. If it's low enough for my children to hear it, it's going to be almost useless as an animal deterrent. It is specifically designed to cause pain to humans and serves no other purpose.

How is this legal?

that quote originates from an insane North Korea defender who incidentally went to school with another Korean-American I know. and of course, it makes no sense on its own terms because nobody is ever like 'Are we no better than Taiwan?'

Doge was not a "missed opportunity." It did *exactly what it set out to do* - slash and burn programs deemed inconvenient, soyjak, "too gay," any any mechanism that was within reach that might slow down "project 2025" with maximal trauma inflicted on the federal workforce & left-leaning pops

It's like saying "well, the Nazi's might've won WWII if only they were reliable diplomatic partners, law-abiding & respectful of the democratic process, & not reliant on slave labor." Yeah, but then they wouldn't be Nazis.

absolutely terrible, stupid framing. DOGE could have *only* been a "missed opportunity" if it had been conceived, planned, & implemented exactly opposite of how it was, by people who did not think like they did, for goals antithetical to their actual goals.

Neil Kinnock, a man who seemed like a centrist pretty much exclusively because he was arguing with actual Trotskyists has become an icon to people who would consider him a raging socialist and also woke (he opposed S28 at the height of the 80s homophobia wave!)

using the example of Kinnock here is especially absurd here given that (1) kinnock was originally from the left of the party, (2) Militant were a bunch of Trots, and (3) it didn't work for Labour under Kinnock

All of which is to say that these people are, without a doubt, far less responsible than the atomic scientists ever were, even the most reckless and irresponsible of the atomic scientists. The average AI tech CEO appears to make Edward Teller look entirely sober and careful by comparison.

That they are evidently willing to sacrifice your children, your livelihoods, your jobs, your environment, your towns, your water, your air, and your culture to the altar seems quite unsurprising once you accept that they're actually wiling to risk the entire species (as they see it) over it.

They appear willing to sacrifice literally everything to the altar of this false god of theirs. *Literally* everything: they appear to sincerely believe (rightly or wrongly) that it involves what anyone sane would consider unacceptable existential risks (e.g. 1-in-10), yet they still push it.

Maybe because of the nature of the economic bubble they've created around it, and/or their own ideological biases towards its"inevitability," they appear to instead believe that if they just push as fast as possible, harms be damned, we'll all just be stuck with it, whatever happens.

You would think that if these AI "visionaries" truly believed that AI was going to create some kind of amazing utopia and be absolutely essential for human future and yadda yadda yadda that they would be much more careful about both public opinion and the accident potential.

When Edward Teller was chair of the early AEC Reactor Safeguards Committee, he was considered extremely conservative in his safety demands. His reasoning was that even one catastrophic accident could destroy all public enthusiasm for a technology he believed was important.
