Shout out to the #LongCovid & #CovidConscious communities who warned us. They said: -keep masking in public spaces -invest in high quality indoor air filtration -don't declare the pandemic is over prematurely -demand single payer health care The majority of us didn't listen. It's a shame.

“Hardly anyone dies from that illness, so why is preventing it so important?” Any death is worth preventing if possible, and it’s not only about whether you live or die, it’s also about helping you and the people around you prevent severe health outcomes and live the healthiest life possible!
Why should I get vaccinated if most people survive the disease anyway? 1. Because any number of deaths is worth preventing. 2. Because getting vaccinated also protects others. 3. Because dying isn’t the only risk. Many people who survive infections with illnesses like COVID-19 & measles live with long-term health consequences, incuding: COVID-19 Measles Deafness
Intellectual disabilities
Immune amnesia
SSPE, a progressive brain disease that is almost always fatal
And more Vaccines protect long-term health for you and others.

We are at this point in time, overrun with infections because: 1. We have never had the correct guidance in place on COVID. 6 years on and still no layered mitigations in places. 2. COVID vaccines were designed to reduce severity of infection, this wasn’t conveyed well to the public. And because 🧵

Dr. Leonardi on Covid, Sept 2020: “herd immunity does not exist.” Instead we’d get “endemic COVID where waves and waves of infection producing results five times worse than the flu.” …new variants would get better at immune invasion & vaccines would not be able to prevent infection. HE WAS RIGHT.

This is really a very conservative estimate of people missing work because long COVID is also going to affect general productivity as well,” said Dr. Arch Mainous… www.mainstreetdailynews.com/health/uf-he...
Long COVID caused $12.7 billion in lost U.S. wages from employee sick time in 2022, according to a University of Florida Health study.

• Individuals with long COVID missed more work, losing about 33 percent higher wages than those with COVID 19 without long term symptoms.

• The study used real world survey data from 2022 to estimate lost labor costs and emphasized long COVID as an economic challenge needing prevention and treatment investment.

World Health Network was featured in The Guardian as experts urge the WHO to update global guidance: surgical masks are inadequate, and respirators should be standard protection in healthcare settings. Evidence-based public health matters. Read the full article here theguardian.com/global-devel...
Graphic with the text “whn.global” at top left. Headline: “Face masks ‘inadequate’ and should be swapped for respirators, WHO is advised”. Subheadline: “Experts are urging guideline changes on what health professionals should wear to protect against flu-like illnesses including Covid”. Below is a side-by-side photo: on the left, a man wearing a blue surgical mask; on the right, a person wearing a white FFP2-style respirator and a black hat and scarf, facing each other in profile. Caption under the photo: “Surgical masks, such as the one on the left, which became ubiquitous during Covid, should be replaced by respirators like the FFP2 face mask, right. Composite: Robin Utrecht/Shutterstock”. Bottom text: “The World Health Network is a network devoted to global compassion—working together to inspire collective action through science for a safer, healthier world.”Graphic with the text “whn.global” at top left. Centered excerpt text reads: “The WHO has been criticised for being slow to describe Covid-19 as spreading via ‘airborne’ particles and the letter also calls for it to revisit earlier statements and ‘unambiguously inform the public that it spreads via airborne respiratory particles’.” Next paragraph: “Prof Trisha Greenhalgh of the University of Oxford, whose research is cited extensively in the letter and is one of its signatories, said: ‘A germ that does not get inside someone cannot make them sick. By sealing against the face, respirators force airflow to pass through them, filtering out the airborne germs. Respirators are designed to fit closely around the face and meet high filtration standards. Medical masks, in contrast, fit loosely and leak extensively.’” Final paragraph: “The letter’s supporters include members of the World Health Network, prominent US epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding, and Guardian columnist George Monbiot.” Bottom text: “The World Health Network is a network devoted to global compassion—working together to inspire collective action through science for a safer, healthier world.”
