Remembering how during the Claudine Gay scandal, one of its biggest promoters of the story was Bill Ackman. Then someone uncovered that Ackman's own wife was a professor alleged to have committed much more serious academic misconduct than Gay and then nothing happened to her.

Stole this from the comments because this shit shouldn't be behind a paywall.
Crucially, the GLOVE has limitations, chief among them that for the device to work effectively and deliver its restraining pain shock, it must come into contact with the subject's bare skin. According to Compliant Technologies, the gloves won't work through dry clothing or thick hair. The gloves will work, however, if the subject is wearing thin, wet clothing, such as soaked T-shirts or blouses. The GLOVE also does not like being dunked in water and will likely be rendered inoperable if this happens.

This is the money paragraph for me.
What if we got away from the argument that doing cosmology and particle physics is practical or materially valuable? Then we have to accept that we're like the poets.
What we do is important culturally in the same way poetry is. A piece of this book is me saying there is value in banding with the poets, and fighting for the value of being curious and trying to articulate the world with whatever tools are available to us. Not for the purposes of selling something, but for the purpose of fulfilling our humanity.

New York Times: If you're gonna crib our headline, you could at least credit Nick Judin and the Mississippi Free Press for first reporting it 2 days earlier. I'm glad this story is getting national attention. But Nick puts a lot of himself in these stories, and deserves credit (just as we'd do).
Mississippi Free Press screenshot shows a picture of two teen boys with their arms around one another in front of a cake and a sign that says "2026." The headline below the photo says: Max and Israel Makoka Were Waiting for a Hancock High School Bus. ICE Took the Brothers Instead.

Recently, I looked at the papers of black feminist Barbara Smith, a contemporary of Audre Lorde and Pauli Murray. These pamphlets are from the 70s/80s. I cannot help but reach the conclusion that gender-based violence and mistreatment (a far reaching term, I know) of black women is on the rise now.
A long wide-length sign that says “NO MORE MURDERS! WOMEN FIGHT BACK!” To the left is an illustration of a black woman with her arms crossed. Several copies of pamphlets with the title “Six…Seven… Eight?? Black Women Why Did They Die?”

*staring into the camera with the light behind my eyes entirely extinguished*
Through the African American Policy Forum, she launched the #WhyWeCantWait campaign, calling for the programme to be expanded to include girls and young women of colour. Prominent Black feminist leaders and advocates including Brittney Cooper, Barbara Arnwine, Lisalyn Jacobs and Fatima Goss Graves threw their support behind it. An open letter, signed by more than 1,000 women and girls, urged the administration to realign the initiative with the principles of inclusion and shared fate that had long underpinned struggles for racial justice. The groundswell widened further with a second petition backed by high-profile white feminists including Gloria Steinem, V (formerly Eve Ensler) and Jane Fonda.

Crenshaw was invited to the White House to discuss the initiative, but the encounter only underscored how little space there was for the argument she was making. She recalls being interrupted by Obama’s chief of staff, who, she says, incredibly, told her she perhaps didn’t understand the meaning of intersectionality. Afterwards, she found herself shut out of the administration.
