The Sausage Race took place on the (monochrome) scoreboard back then, too--it showed animated sausages running superimposed on shots of various Milwaukee landmarks.

Yep! Back in the County Stadium days of my youth, the slide looked like this:
At County Stadium cerca 1997, Brewers mascot Bernie Brewer slides down a chute from a chalet-themed clubhouse into a giant beer mug, which is attached to a massive beer keg labeled "Go Brewers."

I miss when the slide used to end in a giant beer mug.

Wisconsin permits write-ins but only counts them if the person whose name you wrote officially registered as a write-in candidate. Otherwise, sorry folks, it counts exactly the same as a non-vote.

The issue is how to balance competing rights in a way that does the least harm, and--as someone who works in this area--nobody wants to open the can of worms involved in taking a hard look at the issues. There's a lot of cowardice.

Someone found incompetent in a criminal proceeding for a violent crime should have their case converted to a civil commitment or a guardianship, whichever better fits the facts, not simply released without any further action. That's a system failure. People do in fact have a right not to be stabbed.

The legal threshold to get a commitment or guardianship order has risen a lot from the Bad Old Days, and it should have! But "no medication should ever be forced outside of acute crisis" is not a standard that serves anyone's interests--the person who will be yo-yoing in and out of crisis included.
120
Saralegal @saralegal.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
This is not correct across the board. Where I live, at least, if you are under a commitment order, you must take your medication whether you are in acute crisis or not. If you are under guardianship, your guardian may request a medication order in court if you refuse necessary psych medication.

How about no. My public high school offered an elective self-defense unit at one point, and the enrollment was around a dozen girls and one boy with Down syndrome, who needed the lessons as much if not more than the rest of us. There are plenty of boys who face physical bullying and attacks, too.

Yes, which is why I used "evil" in my post for what is purely evil, and "fascist" for what is specifically fascist. In my experience, it helps to read posts in their entirety before replying.

There is no non-evil way to say civilians are legitimate targets. There is no non-fascist way to say civilians are legitimate targets based on their nationality or ethnicity. People who genuinely oppose genocide don't endorse genocidal ideas. This is not difficult.

This is bureaucratic violence. ICE quietly stopped taking fingerprints from people in detention, so USCIS denied their applications by default. Nobody weighed the merits of a single case. People's applications were thrown out because the agency holding them would not take their fingerprints.

An stylized illustration consisting of different blue and yellow shades. A woman in a longsleeve billowing dress and head scarf charges forth with a sword. She carries the head of a bearded man in her other hand. Below her, women of all ages and races charge force carrying flags and signs. They have "No Kings" on the signs and the flags have a simple crown outline with a red X over it. In the top right corner it says " תן מרמה בלשוני לסכל עצת עבד אל אדוניו ועצת אדון אל עבדיו ונגדעו קרנותם ביד אישה - Judith 9:12" in blue text. At the bottom of the illustration in larger, dark blue text it says "ניט אײן מאָל האָבן שױן נאָבעלע פֿרױען,

My son considered taking a babysitting course (and would be good at it) but decided that between how many parents would pass him over for his gender and the pay rate he could expect, it wasn't worth it. And I can't really fault him for that.

Part of the problem is also that parents looking for babysitters today want to pay the same rates I was making as a teen babysitter in the early aughts, which is not enough enticement in an age where even a pre-driving kid stuck at home on a Saturday night has plenty of entertaining things to do.
