The study also suggests that nearly 50,000 homes could have been built if the resources in the data centre build-out were directed elsewhere.

Faced with energy prices soaring and data centres eating up over a fifth of all the juice in the country, the Govt paid KPMG €100k for a report which made such absurd claims about the employment dependant on them that it could have just been published as an appendix to Mr Frankfurt’s On Bullshit.

I don't know what the percentage chance of AI destroying the world is, but I bet it's higher than the risk of Putin randomly deciding to kill himself and all life on earth because the US transferred a few extra weapons to Ukraine... and we let that second thing drive policy for like 8 years.

Winter-ready shortlist for the next few weeks. Jaysus wept. Not included : block timber, build the damn wood shed, finish the fence, see if the electrician can squeeze me in for solar panels before 2028, build a conservatory/lean-to along the back of the house.
Long list of chores, including gutter cleaning, grease trap cleaning, and chimney cleaning.

Pen, watercolor, black & white charcoal pencil.

Another featured piece from the Spooky Pants book.

A man in a sweater stands with his hands on his hips looking out of a large window with the curtains open. Things aren’t looking good outside, reader. A massive winged demon is emerging from the clouds as dozens of little ghosts and bone demons rip through the sky. On the ground below we see townsfolk running through the grass. Our man in the window is in no mood for this. He lets us know, “Oh, I am in no mood for this.” His dog looks out the window as well, wagging its tail.

Fantasia (1940) inspired drawing. I think I could’ve gone a little heavier with the chaos outside but we’ll try again with fresh drawings this October. I like how the clouds turned out. Trying to balance my sloppy lines with more detail can be tricky but I think we achieved a good result.

MUSHROOM HUNTING AND EATING! I'm obsessed this year.... I never ever buy mushrooms because I just let them go off in the fridge but I will eat/cook/preserve wild mushrooms all day long 🥰 I think it's the thrill of the hunt!
A photo of my wild mushroom haul. Clockwise from the top: Big Porcini (King Bolete), Hedgehog mushroom, small Porcini, Bay Bolete, hedgehog, lots of Chanterelle, and one Brown Birch Bolete. What I did with my mushrooms from the other day. Photo shows creamed wild mushrooms on a slice of toasted soda bread with a sprinkle of parmesan on top. Photo shows 3 glass jars of dried Porcini.

A particularly grim element is that Stephen Ogilvie, the stabbing victim whose ordeal ignited the pogrom flame, had been the victim of torture by a drug gang in Glasgow that boasted of ties to the UVF in Belfast. Loyalist violence in his name has been quiet on that one too.
