Serendipity that I watched the @rangedtouch.bsky.social covid roller coaster tycoon fundraiser vod yesterday and the GLEE in @ckunzelman.bsky.social’s voice at the suggestion to make the go kart track the only way out of the park goes a long way to explain this

I know I’m a broken record on this but: A handful of law profs are engaging in an effort to convince the Supreme Court to accept a reactionary administration’s effort to redefine American citizenship and render countless children stateless.

But you cannot draw the masses into politics without drawing in the women as well. For under capitalism the female half of the human race is doubly oppressed.

unfortunately it isn't possible to adjust a wristwatch to account for the switch to daylight saving time. there are plenty of hucksters out there who claim it can be done, but the reality is that your watch is now defective and must be discarded in a fresh waterway such as a river or swimming pool

I found it pretty charming to learn that after Roger Taney died, sitting lawmakers called his death a "victory for liberty and the Constitution," suggested that he was probably burning in hell, and joked (?) that they'd rather hang him in effigy than do literally anything to honor his memory

Roger Taney’s Contemporaries Hated Him As Much As You Probably Do
Ordinarily, members of Congress do not publicly suggest that recently deceased Supreme Court justices are burning in hell. But Roger Taney was no ordinary Supreme Court justice.

As a resident of #Portland it is impossible to capture how unhinged this is. We are a low crime city and the ICE protest "siege" consists of one auxiliary ICE office that normally has at most a dozen weirdos debating what performance art they should use to block a single driveway

The US constitution does not allow US citizens to be rounded up on the basis of apparent race or ethnicity and require them to carry papers to prove their citizenship. Any supreme court that claims it does is illegitimate.

the TVPRA is the law but the name robs it of its context: it is the statutory enforcement mechanism of the 13th amendment. Judge Sooknanan is talking about the TVPRA because the government is, or is at least trying to, traffic children.

this piece is really good and this passage is 100% correct. but it’s also kind of wild to be sitting on the precipice of obliteration here and still debating whether one of the only two major political parties should have core values and fight for them.
Representative democracy requires ideologues, sincere partisans, people genuinely committed to a way of going forward. That renders it possible for elections to constitute a representative body of such partisans to deliberate on affairs of state and make laws. When political parties reshape themselves on the basis of polling, it renders the whole process nonsensical, a kind of infinite regress. It deprives the public of meaningful choice in the name of giving it what it wants

This was Vin Scully's call of Henry Aaron's 715th home run. Tonight Major League Baseball cut off the first sentence, starting it with the "What a marvelous moment" part because they don't want to anger the white supremacists who run our country and of whom Rob Manfred is an ardent supporter.
"A Black man is getting a standing ovation in the Deep South for breaking a record of an all-time baseball idol. What a marvelous moment for baseball. What a marvelous moment for Atlanta and the state of Georgia. What a marvelous moment for the country and the world.”

all of the Supreme Court’s jurisprudence about executive power - all of it - can be replaced with a simple flow chart. is the president a Republican? if so it’s ok. if not, it’s presumptively not ok.
