I’ve been doing some digging into if and when Cardiff Singer of the World 2027 is happening, and it seems that it’ll be in September rather than June, and with a raised age limit which accounts for people who would have missed out forever as a result of the postponement of the 2025 competition.

I’m a bit shocked by how far from sold out the Royal Opera’s new Parsifal, which opens tomorrow, is. In years past it would have been a guaranteed sell-out throughout the run. Perhaps there is in fact a ceiling on what people can/will pay for tickets.

Predictably, ENO has realised that they can’t sell their new opera at a bottom ticket price of £25 inc fees (up from a bottom price last season of £10 plus fees) after all. I get that ticket-price setting is a fine art, but ENO seems to get it wrong time after time.

Was not actually planning on watching the eclipse. Then stepped outside my block and the weird shadows were very cool. No way of safely actually LOOKING at the eclipse, so may wait until the optimum moment (92% in about 5 minutes from now) and then flash the briefest of glances.

I’m unsure of the economics of bringing prestigious visiting orchestras to the Proms, but it’s interesting to look on their website and see swathes of unsold Stalls seats for a concert whose ticket prices made me blanch and caused me to book a much worse seat than usual.

This is LITERALLY the same as the point I was making about AI in a strategy discussion at work today (from quite a specialised, non-minimum-wage perspective). You can use AI effectively for some things, but at least for now, you still need a human professional to take the role of bullshit filter.
