Ruth Elleson @ruthelleson.bsky.social · 03/10/2026In this context, I’m always mildly amused in Act 3 when Macbeth asks the witches what they’re doing, and their response (Shakespeare: “A deed without a name”) is “Un’opra senza nome”. 130

And it still accepts the premise that immigration and settlement are bad things that we need to minimise. 1104

Ruth Elleson @ruthelleson.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I probably can’t GO if it’s in September, because of Regents Opera’s production of Parsifal, but that’s beside the point. 110
Ruth Elleson @ruthelleson.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I’ve been doing some digging into if and when Cardiff Singer of the World 2027 is happening, and it seems that it’ll be in September rather than June, and with a raised age limit which accounts for people who would have missed out forever as a result of the postponement of the 2025 competition. 112
Ruth Elleson @ruthelleson.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I’ve heard great things based on the dress rehearsal, so perhaps tickets for the later performances will be snapped up once press night has passed. 231
Ruth Elleson @ruthelleson.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I’m a bit shocked by how far from sold out the Royal Opera’s new Parsifal, which opens tomorrow, is. In years past it would have been a guaranteed sell-out throughout the run. Perhaps there is in fact a ceiling on what people can/will pay for tickets. 150

Ruth Elleson @ruthelleson.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I was at this concert. It was part of the Opera Rara “Donizetti and Friends” series in conjunction with the launch of their complete Donizetti song collection - but the recitals were balanced out with songs by other composers. The Ponchielli was much more interesting than the Donizetti! 120
Ruth Elleson @ruthelleson.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Actually - RRP £50, TodayTix fee £3, still ended up in my hands for £25 including the fee. 000
Ruth Elleson @ruthelleson.bsky.social · 25/09/2026(Further context: I have already paid £25 for my ticket for Angel’s Bone, but not for a shitty uncomfortable Balcony seat that was originally £25 full price. I got a London Theatre Week deal at that price on a much better seat whose RRP was £53.) 130
Ruth Elleson @ruthelleson.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Predictably, ENO has realised that they can’t sell their new opera at a bottom ticket price of £25 inc fees (up from a bottom price last season of £10 plus fees) after all. I get that ticket-price setting is a fine art, but ENO seems to get it wrong time after time. 130

Ruth Elleson @ruthelleson.bsky.social · 23/09/2026We had some nice comments. I was very pleased with how the Byrd Vigilate went. It’s quite tricky but fun to sing because of the colourful word-painting. We particularly enjoyed the crowing of the cock… 000
Ruth Elleson @ruthelleson.bsky.social · 23/09/2026It was lovely to see the church so full for Choral Evensong last night, but I’m not going to pretend it was because of our singing! (I stayed for the talk too - it was really interesting.) 130

Proms audiences are of a wide political spectrum. I would imagine it tends mildly more right-wing on the Last Night because a lot of us regulars don’t go. 220
