Incredible. First Secretary Mullin claimed that DHS had identified 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada’s voter roll. Then DHS officials told a skeptical Nevada, no no no, that’s just people we flagged. Here are the names of 185 people we KNOW aren’t citizens. All 185 were citizens. DHS got 100% wrong.
When the Department of Homeland Security sent Nevada a list of 185 names last month that it claimed identified noncitizens who had been improperly allowed to register to vote, state election officials got to work.
On Tuesday, the state sent a strongly worded rebuke to the federal government: Every single person on the list was a lawful citizen.
"As for the 185 individuals, our records indicate that they were citizens," Greg D. Ott, a deputy attorney general in Nevada, wrote, according to a copy of a letter sent to Department of Homeland Security officials obtained through open records requests.
"You have provided nothing of substance to suggest otherwise."Following the meeting, Ms. Vogt sent a clarifying email to Nevada officials. "I also wanted to be sure I clarified that we did not reduce the 15,903 to 185," she wrote. "We've manually reviewed some of the 15,903 and confirmed 185 are not U.S. Citizens."
Now, Nevada officials are saying even that 185 number is wrong. They also took issue with a letter D.H.S. sent them in early September, in which the agency reiterated its initial claims about nearly 16,000 noncitizens on the rolls and pressured state officials to review each case in a letter to Nevada officials in early September.

Ruling against TPS for Haitians, the Trump justices on the Supreme Court have set a new impossible standard for proving discrimination against non-whites: if there is any other reason *in addition* to the racism, the racism doesn’t count www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
Mullin now sets up an even more impossible double standard. If the government wants to discriminate against Black people, any pretext will do. “As long as there is a plausible basis—any plausible articulable basis—for the government’s action, then the Court will look to that basis as sufficient,” Aderson Francois, a law professor at Georgetown University, told me, “even in the face of evidence that government actors were motivated by animus.” If a Black person wants to prove they’ve been discriminated against, however, no amount of evidence will suffice.

“This Court sees race when it wants to, and blinds itself to racism in most other cases,” Melissa Murray, a law professor at NYU, told me. “It’s hard to imagine how egregious the statement would have to be to be considered ‘overtly racial’.”

how fucking corrupt is this? the DOJ has *given* Dear Leader 1776 BILLION OF OUR TAXPAYER DOLLARS, to use as he sees fit, without any oversight. how is that not a CRIME? thank you for your attention to today's post, in which my head explodes as I try to explain it. link is here: bit.ly/4fvBdRG
basically what happened is that Donny phoned up Todd Blanche — the Acting Attorney General who is apparently under the impression that he’s still Donny’s personal lawyer — and said ‘give me money,’ and Todd was all ‘how much?’

$1.776 billion. that’s what Donny asked for, and that’s how much he’s getting, to give away to whoever he sees fit. why $1.776? because apparently Donny thinks it’s super fucking hilarious to make everything a callback to the American revolution. what a slap in the face to our founders, who rebelled against this whole I’m-a-king-so-I-can-do-anything-I-want shit.

$1.776 billion is a clownfuckingly enormous amount of money. it’s enough to give every January 6th insurrectionist a million dollars, with shitloads of cash left over for Donny to jam into his own greedy pockets.

once again, Dear Leader is getting away with doing whatever the fuck he wants, laws be damned. there’s no existing legal framework that allows a president to just demand money from his own government, and be given it.

tell me, why do we even have laws, if some complete fuckhead gets to ignore them?

these are impeachable acts — but don’t expect the Republicans in Congress to do anything. in fact, I can’t wait for some reporter to ask Holy Mike Johnson about it, so he can make weak mewling noises about how ‘I really don’t know anything, this is the first I’m hearing about it.’

Years ago Scalia provoked gasps in the gallery when he called the Voting Rights Act a “racial entitlement.” But turning American democracy back into a white racial entitlement, as it was for most of American history, is exactly what the Roberts Court is doing. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
The Court decided in Shelby County’s favor; in her dissent, the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote that Section 5 had “worked and is continuing to work to stop discriminatory changes.” Nullifying it, she warned, is “like throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet.”

The deluge is enough to refill America’s whites-only pools. The vaunted “progress” the justices cite at every opportunity to justify gutting the VRA was a result of the law effectively neutralizing racial discrimination, not an absence of the desire or intent to discriminate. Scalia’s remark that the VRA was a “racial entitlement” is illuminating in the way that statements from many ideologues are, in that they express their own motives rather than those of their targets. Until 1965, democracy itself was a “racial entitlement” in America. Much of the Republican Party is trying to make that true once again.
