The BBC does genuinely seem to be trying to save money where it can; they scrapped an undercover investigation where Amol Rajan went out clubbing with a view to exposing the easy access to poppers because they didn't want to pay for the Amol night rate

Prime Minister, a blood sacrifice wouldn't cauterise the wound. the point of cauterising is to seal the broken blood vessels and reduce bleeding. And of course as you know it's in fact done with heat or electricity not somehow with the application of further blood

According to official statistics, If you include the emissions associated with everything consumed in the UK, no matter where it is made, the total in 2023 (most recent year for which figures are available) is 699 Mt CO2e. That is a 24% reduction since 1990. www.ons.gov.uk/economy/envi...

this has made me realise that Pulp's I Spy is Jolene flipped - a male narrator, addressing another man, in detail about why he *has* taken his woman (to coin a phrase). tho also the point of I Spy is that the singer is an unreliable narcissist

Probably not my most controversial take but in my opinion one thing that makes Jolene such a good song is that the narrative perspective is really really interesting, a genuinely novel (or at least very unusual) take on the love song as a genre.

But there are 11,000 to 12,000 cases of fraud every day in the United Kingdom alone, there are loads of fabulist memoirs and there are a decent amount of professors whose own output is hard to reconcile with their position. In an equal society, some frauds are black!

"meep meep ass location" i cannot breathe omfg 💀
The quoted post reads "Liminal Stop Sign," Monument Valley, Utah. The image shows a very isolated stop sign at an intersection of what is presumably a highway. It is a desert climate, with two towering rock formations in the background, and a perfectly clear sky.

When I tell you it looks EXACTLY like a still from the Warner Brothers Wile E Coyote cartoon.

The quote says "meep meep ass location." It was here where I stopped being able to breathe.

(Meep meep is the sound the Roadrunner makes, whom Wile E Coyote kept trying to kill with elaborate schemes that would backfire in the most hilarious ways)

I'm still giggling at this one.

Please just want to remind everyone about the reporting (or even public discussion) guidelines around suicide - suicide is not ever caused by any one reason and speculating on (or even announcing) why someone completed suicide is really unhelpful, incl. to people with suicidal ideation

for the first time in two and a half years, a new note was played in this organ performance today!
Organ²/ASLSP (As Slow as Possible) is a musical piece by John Cage.[1]

An organ in St. Burchardi church in Halberstadt in 2001 began a performance that is due to end in 2640. This makes it the longest running non-computerized piece currently being performed.
