This is not "a controversial vaccine trial," it's biological warfare, conducted by European researchers on African infants. It's imperialism, racism, eugenics, and the hubris of incredibly stupid people. It's denying vaccines to newborns! In what fuckin universe is this a "vaccine trial"?

In July, I took a ride through the Arizona desert with Verlon Jose, chairman of the Tohono O’odham Nation, a sprawling reservation on the U.S.-Mexico border that may soon be changed forever. It was the beginning of an investigation that ProPublica is publishing today. THREAD ⬇️

It's World Homeless Day, and I'll just say: Homelessness isn't some great unsolvable mystery. People are homeless because they don't have homes. This suffering persists not for lack of solutions, but because enormous wealth and power are invested in maintaining the very structures that produce it.

To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. All for a data center. www.gadgetreview.com/one-of-ameri...

I’ve covered death row cases for nearly a decade and witnessed several executions. What happened to Christa Pike wasn’t an anomaly. It could happen anywhere. With another execution planned for this week in Texas, let me explain why. THREAD 🧵

I moved away from NYC for about ten years, and then came back. The first time I went to the Upper West Side, I immediately (ten minutes after getting off the subway) ran into an old coworker. It’s not even like I went to Zabars - we were just crossing the street at the same time.

I was in the East 30s in Manhattan one day, volunteering for a campaign. A part of Manhattan I’d never been to before or since. I ran into someone I hadn’t seen since my first year of college! We lost touch, both moved to NYC after graduation, and ended up on the same corner at the same moment.

In 2018, Annalinda Martinez and her daughters became homeless. She went to Georgia's child welfare agency looking for help finding housing. Instead, the state took her children. Then DFCS began charging her for their foster care. Those bills eventually left her $13,000 in debt.

Georgia is among several states that have moved away from charging parents for their kids' time in foster care. But parents who already owe money for past cases are still on the hook.
