Can we crack down hard on the constant fascist street rioting, arson and seizure of vital infrastructure *before* we start drafting citizens’ militias? Because otherwise, I can see how those things might get quietly amalgamated, whether under this government or the next one.

BREAKING: The Labour Party has said that power-sharing agreements with the Green Party will end unless local Greens explicitly reject their party's "Zionism is racism" policy
The Labour Party has asked all Labour groups in power-sharing agreements with the Green Party to review their arrangements in local government after the prime minister's words at PMQs yesterday.
Bridget Phillipson MP, Chair of the Labour Party, said:
"The Prime Minister has been completely clear: this policy is wrong and antisemitic, and has no place in British politics.
"Where local Labour Parties currently have an arrangement with the Greens in local government, we expect their Green

The advice on which former Home Secretary Yvette Cooper based her proscription of Palestine Action has never been published.
My assumption is that it outlined the organisation's behaviour and its implications for national security. That's all well and good.
But it turns out that proscribing Palestine Action (PA) has had follow-on benefits which make Cooper's decision seem even more laudable.
We've all seen the protests, when PA supporters who couldn't place Palestine on a map sit motionless on the ground with their PA placards.
They call it civil disobedience, but which of us hasn't thought what a simple, peaceful way it would be to clear these awful people not just off the streets but out of society itself.

Why was Watson so determined, even back then, to defend a system of controls which hardly existed, let alone being "really robust"?

A lot of the shocked responses here are because it’s not well understood that *the paper and its staff* are almost certainly more extreme, much crankier and way more committed to massive violence against entire populations than Farage is. It’s not clear to me which is more intensely racist, however.

There’s really only one way to mark the 99th anniversary of Roger Moore’s birth
Marc Haynes’ story: As a 7 year old in about 1983, … I was with my grandad in Nice Airport and saw Roger Moore Sitting at the departure gate, ... told my granddad i'd just seen James Bond and asked if we could go over so I could get his autograph. …so we walked over and he popped me in front of Roger Moore, with the words "my grandson says you're famous. Can you sign this?" As charming as you'd expect, Roger asks my name and signs the back of my plane ticket... I'm ecstatic, but …I glance down at the signature. … it definitely doesn't say 'James Bond'. ...I tell my grandad he's signed it wrong, … so my grandad heads back to Roger Moore...
"he says you've signed the wrong name. He says your name is James Bond." Roger Moore's face crinkled up with realisation and he beckoned me over. …he leant over, looked from side to side, raised an eyebrow and in a hushed voice said "I have to sign my name as 'Roger Moore because otherwise...Blofeld might find out I was here." He asked me not to tell anyone …and thanked me for keeping his secret. I went back to our seats, my nerves absolutely jangling with delight. My grandad asked me if he'd signed 'James Bond.' No, I said.
I'd got it wrong. I was working with James Bond now. Many years later, I was working on a recording that involved UNICEF, and Roger Moore was doing a piece to camera as an ambassador. He was lovely and while the cameramen were setting up, I told him the story. He …had a chuckle and said "Well, I don't remember but I'm glad you got to meet James Bond." So that was lovely. And then he did something so brilliant. After the filming, he walked past me in the corridor, heading out to his car - but as he got level, he paused looked both ways, raised an eyebrow and in a hushed voice said, "Of course I remember our meeting in Nice. But I didn't say anything in there, because those cameramen - any one of them could be working for Blofeld."
I was as delighted at 30 as I had been at 7. What a man. What a tremendous man.

New from me: Nigel Farage has called on Labour to emphatically rule out any deals with the Green Party following their decision to equate Zionism with racism.
Writing exclusively in the JC he says: "Britain has no shortage of political differences. We argue fiercely about tax, social care and energy. Those are all legitimate debates.
Equating the existence of the world's only Jewish state with racism is not. It is a descent into the oldest and ugliest of prejudices masquerading as progressive virtue.
I will not tolerate sectarian politics or the importation of fundamentalism into our once vibrant democracy. Neither should Labour."
Speaking to the JC anonymously, several Labour figures are frustrated that their party hasn't emphatically ruled out an alliance.
One former minister told me: "I'm no fan of Nigel Farage, but he's absolutely correct here".
