your response to “I was raped” should not be “I was right”
4 panel comic

Panel 1:
A Purple Woman looks distraught, on the verge of breaking down. She says “that man raped me”
Orange Guy standing next to her is absent-mindedly checking his nails. He says “Wellll, I’ve always disliked him and his work.”

Panel 2:
Purple Woman begins to cry. Orange Guy adopts an incredibly smug expression and says “Guess I must just be a good judge of character”

Panel 3:
Purple Woman dissolves into sobs. Orange Guy notices, puts his hand on her shoulder and says “Aw”

Panel 4:
Purple Woman crumples to the floor. Orange Guy, looking bemused, asks “Are you crying because you’re jealous of how smart I am?”

Remember how that guy said: it’s all about creating a permission structure for cuts? He didn’t mean “get it past you, the public”, he meant “convince Labour MPs to vote for it”.
EXCL: Ministers are working up sweeping plans for welfare changes including scrapping key disability benefit for under-25s & replacing it with multibillion pound package of support to get into work.
Whitehall sources said changes under debate were much bigger than previously thought, as Andy Burnham's government hopes to persuade more people on benefits back into work.
But the move could be fraught with political danger after last year's dramatic welfare rebellion by Labour MPs. Ministers have spent | weeks trying to persuade them the plans are about reform not cuts & feel confident opposition has waned.

Sometimes I miss important nuances of new policies, in the political mayhem. Here is one such. When I heard Andy Burnham say the triple lock would not be reformed until 2030, l assumed it would be a battle for the next general election campaign. But in fact the government has committed to legislate for the change in this parliament (see attached Downing Street statement). That will cause an almighty parliamentary row, which the UK's creditors will be watching - but should counteract the charge that Burnham has no fiscal backbone, because in theory the cost savings will be guaranteed long before the huge costs of his social care ambitions are being incurred
The current Triple Lock will be maintained throughout this Parliament, increasing the State Pension by over £2,000. From April 2030, the adjusted Triple Lock will mean the State Pension continues to rise by 2.5% or inflation - whichever is higher - and by even more if that is required to maintain its value relative to earnings. This will ensure the living standards of pensioners keep up with the rest of the population. For example, if the value of the State Pension is around a third

The thing that makes me the most annoyed about this is that we've seen this precise playbook so many times, right?
This is the Twitter files, this is the Lab League, this is the Quote and Quote whistleblowers at gender clinics. It's like, ooh, there's secret documents, and everybody constructs it as a scandal.
It's all about why weren't they more transparent with the medical records, blah, blah, blah, and then on the merits, there's nothing there.
There will be a slow drip of light coverage that's sort of like, and it doesn't really appear that there was anything here, but we've all learned a lesson.
So I found an academic article called
Climate Gate Public Opinion and the Loss of Trust, which shows that it appears not entirely, but mostly due to the scandal. US popular support for climate change fell from 71% to 57%. Almost a 15% drop in two years.

FATALITY
A tweet from Joyce Carol Oates: overall takeaway from the Curtis Yarvin profile is that there must be millions of smart-aleck show-offy kids who annoy their teachers and go on to annoy other adults through their lives with their “contrarian” pose that hardens to a carapace over their faces; until, as adults, they still harbor a delusion that, if there is a king, or a fuhrer, he’d be impressed with the guys motor mouth and appoint him to his cabinet rather than deleting him with a negligent swipe of his wrist as Stalin did routinely.

The Labour Party is jubilant. Andy Burnham has fired the starting gun for the next general election with one of the most consequential conference speeches in recent memory. He used it to set out a series of major proposals, including an end to the triple lock, the abolition of first-past-the-post and closer ties with Europe.
At the heart of his national project is a care service free at the point of use. Burnham has set out a vision that promises to put Britain on a different road. But can he persuade the country to buy into it?

Today’s podcast and LOL yes lads, everyone was gloomy in 2024 because “Keir Starmer didn’t want to be too upbeat”. It definitely wasn’t because the most horrific and malicious people in the party were in charge and it had dawned on everyone that they had pledged themselves to the cause of Evil.
Yeah, it's got this nervous energy to this conference, I think. Everybody's kind of slightly buzzing, very excited, but also not quite sure what they've done in the last few months and not quite sure where they're headed. There's suddenly, I was watching the main stage today and you're seeing people go up and give speeches that haven't been in front line jobs for a little while and are suddenly back at the heart of government.
And there's just a feeling of, oh my goodness, it's almost like what the mood of the first conference after the 2024 general election should have been. That should have been exactly, but it wasn't.
Because this is sort of this weird pessimism that Kirsten Stammer didn't want to appear too upbeat. And it ended up being really gloomy and they ended up in a downward spiral. But I've spoken to several coffees with different cabinet ministers and every single one of them has arrived with a smile on their face.
