Car brains will look at this image & tell you that the problem is those 2 hire bikes on the pavement. What do you mean you can’t see them? Next to the HGV that’s parked on the pavement. No! Not that HGV on the pavement. The other HGV that’s on the pavement. Yes!! Those hire bikes are the problem.

When compared to Wonford ward (where the route is), only 23% of the population supported this via the consulation. Looking as St. Leonards, Heavitree, Middlemoor and Wonford wards (pop. 40k), only 5.3% responded with support. Shockingly poor decision that prioritises short local car-trips.

Cyclists are traffic. Usually, what motorists mean by "courtesy" from cyclists is "get out of my way as quickly as possible". The Highway Code permits riding 2 abreast, and any competent motorist overtaking properly as per the HWC (i.e. "giving as much room as you would a car") will have no issue.

Thought I was going to be squashed today by yet another driver not looking or slowing down at the junction of Titchbourne Row and Oxford Square in Bayswater today. This junction seems rife for rat-running drivers not giving way – had many similar close calls @westminster-lcc.bsky.social

Reading the response sounds like massive chunks of segregated cycle lanes have been removed from the proposal. I don’t know the area, but it sounds like a pathetic, weak-willed inability to stand up to “but muh parking” NIMBYs from the council

Tbf the previous Labour administration wasn’t doing much for cycling anyway compared to the tories; very much business as usual with no new LTNs, meaningful plan for a cycle network and only a few localised schemes. I think it won’t make much difference.

This is the best cycling advert ever, especially because I’m in it. It beautifully shows that cycling is for everyone, no matter who you are or where you come from. Bikes bring people together and remind us that cycling is one of the best ways to improve our health and wellbeing.

We initially designed the protected cycle infrastructure to include the RBKC side of Bayswater Road. Not surprising but nonetheless a depressing reply came back: "Stepped tracks and bus stop by-passes are just not something that is supported in RBKC currently." 1/

We are in a genitocracy. Tax cuts and free healthcare and welfare (in the form of pensions) for old people. No incentives for young people. We can’t afford homes which are horded by the old. We are mercilessly taxed to pay for their lives. This is just another stealth tax on the young.

Amsterdam, Paris, London, Seville and many other cities show this is not true. Motoring infrastructure is what undermines public transport by making buses slower, ripping up trams, and taking funds away from public transport schemes for road building & maintenance, and traffic enforcement.

The strategic road network is managed by a charity and relies on the goodwill of land owners for access. Some motorways will be muddy and flooded each winter. Also The strategic road network stops randomly at council boundaries and investment is where councils are willing. (UK edition).

I’m surprised there hasn’t been a test case yet by Cycle UK or similar. I would seriously consider perusing it if I was ever knocked off in a recently (post study publication date) implemented “cycle lane”.

If something happened to a cyclist, I believe this could be challenged in court as a breach of the council’s duty not to implement road layouts they know to be dangerous, given there is peer-reviewed evidence to show such lanes are more dangerous than nothing.

This is the same town the ripped out a cycle lane on the seafront because some people thought allowing people to sit in their cars and look at the sea was more important. They are the authors of thier own demise by clinging onto car centrism at all costs.

In the past month 3 transport routes have collapsed - but they aren't roads so don't make national news. All 3 have the same root causes, climate change, and Tory austerity passing responsibility for critical infrastructure on to charities and councils. This will happen more, and people will be hurt

If your cost-benefit model tells you it isn't worth investing in a tram or light rail system for an urban area with a population of well over 1m, like Leeds-Bradford, your model is wrong and should be thrown in the bin.

Great example of motornormativity on Cycleway 4 in Deptford  – one of London's key cycle routes. Non-existent motor traffic gets a default green while cyclists (& probs pedestrians) have to wait ~1 min for the lights to change. We can do better! @willnorman.co.uk @ianwalker.bsky.social

Was going through old footage and noticed just how much TfL have narrowed the cycle lane (~30cm) on Clapham High Street after the summer resurfacing works. They also removed the wands segregating the cycle lane. Why??? @londoncycling.bsky.social @lambethcyclists.bsky.social @psimonk.bsky.social

It's almost insulting that TfL claims this route is a "high-quality cycle route". Any cycle route that exposes riders to such crap, dangerous driving on is not fit for purpose.

All of these (except the last one, as the Met don't bother to do anything if everyone is in their respective lanes and – to be honest – TfL's road layout is to blame here more than anything) were reported to the police. This is just a small snippet of the videos I have of feeling unsafe on CS7.
