Legal 500 workers win full pay claim after strike action

Dozens of publishing staff at Legalease, the publishers of legal industry-bible The Legal 500, have won a dramatic victory in their industrial dispute over pay.

Staff who had been on strike for two and a half weeks accepted an offer that fully met their original pay claim of a £2000 pay increase for every worker. This was despite the company originally claiming it would not pay such an increase.

The Pope reminds me of a version of Catholicism I knew growing up as a young man attending anti-war and anti-death penalty protests, where I met elderly Catholics who shared their version of faith with me. I learned that Catholicism was about love and mercy for the weak, the condemned, and the poor.

Those concerns are understandable and they have to be addressed in whatever solution is finally agreed.

There were also concerns expressed about the use of hotels and the reason why the nature of accommodation is changing across the country is because a commitment was given to end the use of hotels, and that was what many people were calling for a few years ago.

Q: Would you consider more radical policies, such as sending asylum seekers to a country like Albania to have their claims processed there?

Burnham avoided the question, but stressed there was some evidence that “things are going in the right direction.”

He said he would be “relentless” in addressing this issue.

And he praised what Shabama Mahmood, the home secretary, is doing on this.

She’s got a strong grip on this issue. What we have been doing is working, but more is needed and more will be done.
