I still find it astonishing that Sir Ian Livingstone is the only person knighted for services to the UK games industry. Film, TV and sport are constantly recognised with knighthoods, yet one of Britain's biggest creative industries has had just one.

Had a go on a racing sim at the weekend - one of those fancy ones with a hydraulic base that shakes around. A competition was running for the best lap time and when I'd finished the three lap race I my time was second on the board. The youngster running the sim said it was a 'sick lap'.

Impressed and/or amazed, honestly. At 20 I was mid-way through my first year of a Computer Science degree (having dropped out of a Chemistry degree the year before) and still not convinced I could actually do it professionally, let alone making games.

C64 is a timeless machine. Here's a classic technique called HARD SYNC. It works by using one of the voices as a carrier that drives the main voice, syncing the oscillators to give that bright, harsh sweep. Main theme played on C64 is pure SID chip and isn't edited in any way #chiptune #cyberpunk 🤘👾

Ten years ago today was one of the coolest press trips I've ever done, lapping Iceland in an MX-5. I don't tend to do the slidy photos as frankly it's not something I can do repeatably well, but when you're given a gravel hairpin and scenery like this it'd be rude not to.

This may not look particularly remarkable - it's just Windows 11 after all - but it's running on the near decade-old hardware that Microsoft claimed couldn't run it. Had to add a TPM module, bypass the CPU requirements & hack around the forced MS account creation on sign in but it works just fine.
