Loved the aesthetic of this game, from the obvious stuff everyone talks about (the boxart, menus, ships, soundtrack) to the foreboding, brutalist, slightly megalophobic nature of the courses. Later titles were great too, Wipeout HD/Fury on PS3 was excellent.

Finally gave it a wash. Hard to tell. Fits in well in my local area, lots of old-biddie-spec tall superminis from the 2000s. Jazz, Note, Venga, Fusion etc. Probably quite good "first car" material now. Most in decent nick, cheap, and adaptable - folding seats etc make for good camping cars.

Know as a car journo I'm on thin ice criticising other journalistic professions but always thought music journalism is a bit pointless. Almost no object or media is easier to make a consumption/purchasing decision unaided than music, as you just like what you like.

Not to bang the "declining driving standards" drum again but the line of drivers unwilling or not confident enough to overtake some farm machinery doing 20mph on a well-sighted, relatively wide NSL B-road on a sunny, dry day all need their licences thrown in the bin.

At 30+ years old I'm fairly sure the Eurotunnel car transporters are a lot louder, rattlier, and squeakier than they used to be when I was travelling on them in the late 90s. They're certainly a lot scruffier. Amazing infrastructure project still but could do with a little perking up soon.

Euro Truck Simulator in a full-size lorry cab is quite an experience (also a complete head-scrambler, I lasted about two minutes before I had to stop, immersion sims and me don't play well).

Driven both, new more than old. Love the old one and really, really like the new one. Definitely treated harshly, and while it doesn't feel much like the original, it has its own appeal. In many ways it is to the original as an R35 GT-R is to the old Skylines.

Not that this is any use for the holiday I'm going on tomorrow, but anyone got good suggestions for good 12v Bluetooth/FM adapters? Bought one of these Halfords ones today... and then returned it, as it functioned but had a constant hiss that made music unlistenable. Any that *don't* do that?

Feel like there'd be a market for a new I-Spy book specifically devoted to Chinese SUVs as a kind of learning tool, because I saw one today (sort of sharp-looking, nice metallic orange, vaguely triangular badge like one of the default ones from Automation) and haven't the foggiest what it was.

Ten years ago today was one of the coolest press trips I've ever done, lapping Iceland in an MX-5. I don't tend to do the slidy photos as frankly it's not something I can do repeatably well, but when you're given a gravel hairpin and scenery like this it'd be rude not to.

No decent online info, but based on a half-lap video I found, this seems to be the route of the small street circuit they find in Moçâmedes in ep6 of the latest Grand Tour series. Places like this are ripe for digitising for racing games I think. Could be forgotten so easily.

Okay, episode 5 of the new Grand Tour is my favourite yet. The race is fun but the section on the Isetta was up there with the best similar history-focused segments from the old trio in TG/TGT, especially with the cameo at the end.
