Ok, but how does Karn even exist in a multiverse without Phyrexians?? There are so many steps, from them initially being locked away in Phyrexia, to the Brothers’ War taking place at all, to Xantcha existing and dying, to— oh,, oh I see.

Part of the Legends of Reality Fracture article, describing the Echoverse Karn’s history:

Okay here is my problem with this kind of design. It means nothing on its own. It only has ludo-narrative value as a reference to something else. It is empty in and of itself. It forgoes its own story in exchange for a weak icon or index of another story that cannot stand up on its own.
